Verse Of The Day: The blessing of the Lord, it makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it – Proverbs 10:22 (UKJV).
LISTEN: Today’s verse of the day talks about the blessing of the Lord; that is, something good and desirable that comes from God to us. If there is the blessing of the Lord it means that there are other kinds of “blessings” out there that are not of God. Many seek after such “blessings”. People are desperate to succeed, it doesn’t matter how. That is why many kill, maim, cheat, oppress, marginalise and hurt others to achieve the so-called blessing at the expense of their souls. Any “blessing” that is not from the Lord is certainly not blessing at all.
Any “blessing” without God’s seal on it is a curse in disguise of blessing. God is happy when his people live in prosperity ( Psalms 35 : 27 ). However, our prosperity should not be at the expense of others. In our prosperity, we should remember to honour God as the giver, and to serve others with it to the glory of His name. In today’s verse, the bible said that true blessing comes from the Lord. The beauty of the blessing of the Lord is that it adds no sorrow with it.
Many people today including christians tend to be smart in their quest for riches, not putting into consideration whether the path they chose to take is approved of God or not. The consequence is that when we kill, cheat, slander and assassinate other peoples’ integrity to get rich, we will unfailingly pay dearly for it in this life and in the life to come (Proverbs 20:17; Rev. 21:8). If you want to obtain the blessing of God that does not come with any trouble, obey God’s words and humble yourself before him; then, expect his blessing and you will unfailingly have it (Prov. 22:4; 8:18; 12:3).
Watch anything that comes in the package of blessing to ascertain whether it is truly a blessing or not.
Blessed Father, I ask for guidance and grace to do the right thing in my pursuit of business, wealth and riches; help me to keep your word as it concerns your kind of blessing, so that the blessing I get out of my endeavours will have no sorrow with it, in Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection : Those who are unnecessarily desperate for the so-called “blessings” of life, often end up embracing a curse.
