Verse Of The Day:  And another also said, Lord, I will follow you; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at my house.  And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God ( Lk. 9:61-62 ).

LISTEN: Excuse is a common lifestyle in the lives of many, especially the youths. They’re preoccupied with their passion for “success”, and most times engaged in youthful escapades and flirting, as a result, they don’t have quality time for God. A lot of people enjoy making excuses at every given occasion. What is excuse? It is the reasons you give to explain politely why you cannot do something, why you have to leave, etc.

People often excuse themselves in any thing their hearts are not set to do. They render apologies and explanations on why they can’t make it, or do what they were expected to do. In today’s verse of the day, we read a story of a man, a disciple of Jesus Christ, who requested to excuse himself from the urgent work of the kingdom of God, that is, the preaching of the gospel. He asked for leave to first go back home to say farewell to his relatives and fix some things before he could come back to follow him. However, his application was refused by Christ. Are you a Christian like this man, who will want to excuse himself from rendering service to God?  Hear what Jesus had to say to him; “No man, having put his hand to the plough looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.

Jesus Christ used agricultural methodology to explain to this man that those whose hands are on the plough making ridges must be focused and committed lest they make condemn ridges. In the same way, when you’re not focus on your assignment as a christian you’re not fit for your calling.

In plain words, Jesus was simply saying to the man as follows:

1. To be a disciple of Christ, you must be consistent and persistent with your faith.
2. The message of the kingdom is more important than any thing else. Therefore every other thing can wait.
3. To be fit for God’s use in the kingdom work, you must be less attached to the world, and more attached to God.

So, why not make a decision to totally devote your life to God’s service today. Matthew 10:38 says, “And he that takes not his cross and follow me, is not worthy of me”. To be worthy of Jesus Christ, he must occupy the first place in your life. Henceforth, make no excuses.

Daily Task
Shun every unnecessary excuse to the service of God, get involve and serve him faithfully.

Daily Reflection : No excuse is acceptable if it is done against God’s plan or project.

My Father in heaven, help my life of unending excuses towards you, and give me the grace to decide for you today, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Prophetic Word : Today, I break the yoke of unnecessary excuses in your life, henceforth,  I set you in motion for Christ. Your life will not be wasted, you will live a fulfilled life, in Jesus ‘ name, amen.
