Verse Of The Day : Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came – Amos 6:1
LISTEN: What is complacency? It is self satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies.
When one is feeling or showing self-satisfaction, he or she closes the door to further increment or improvement. Feeling or showing self-satisfaction will result in unreasonable state of ease and reluctance in seeking external help where necessary. People that are self-satisfied do not see dangers around them. Warning and danger signals to them appear as an invitation to relaxation and enjoyment, until they are overtaken by destruction (Judges 18:7; 27).
The above passage in the book of Judges talks about a certain people (Laish) that lived carelessly in their land, having no business to do with any man (Self-satisfied) and giving no attention to the security state of their land. They were highly self-satisfied, and all of a sudden their land was invaded and utterly destroyed (Judges 18:27). similarly, many Christians today are like the people of Laish, living so complacent, they have no life of bible study, prayer or evangelism. They leave and absent themselves from church services at will; their presence are neither noticed nor their absence felt in the church. They have no life of devotion to the service of God. In addition, they lack commitment and love for God. With these complacent features in them, one can accurately predict their end – destruction.
The bible said, ” Woe to them that are at ease in Zion…”( Amos 6:1 ). To be at ease in this context is to have a relaxed and informal way of behaving. It is the state of being comfortable, free from worry and trouble. It is to be less concerned about situation around you. Many people live that kind of life today. They don’t make any input to people’s welfare and are not bothered about dangers around them. They’re relaxed when others struggle for their wellbeing. To such the bible said, ” Woe to them”. That is, they will have a feeling of great trouble and sadness; they will encounter ruinous trouble: they will experience a condition of deep suffering from misfortune, affliction or grief. Like the people of Laish, those who settle for a life of complacency should be ready for the woe thereof.
What is your responsibility in today’s message?
1. Avoid the lifestyle of complacency, always remember that you can do nothing without God.
2. Avoid friendship with a complacent person
3. Don’t be at ease when there is a call to duty.
4. Work hard to escape the woe of unnecessary life of ease.
Shun self-satisfaction and know that at one point or the other you must need external aid, especially God.
Daily Reflection : To be at ease in neglect to responsibility is to invite uneasiness of life thereafter.
Father of all mercies, forgive my ignorance and complacency; grant me the heart to depend on you for everything and not myself, in Jesus’ name.
Prophetic Word : Today, I prophesy upon your life, no man or forces will deceive you into living a self-satisfied life. Henceforth, you will live your life in total surrender to God, in Jesus ‘ name.
