THE COMMAND TO LOVE YOUR ENEMIES

Author : Bishop Julius Okarike

Verse Of The Day: But I say to you, love your enemies … and pray for those who persecute you – Matthew 5:44

LISTEN: On a daily basis, many are hurt, maimed, or killed by the actions of others; as a result the offended often react by being vindictive or living in enmity with the offender. Naturally speaking, that’s how everyone will respond to such situation. However, Jesus Christ our Master has a different view of what should be done in such circumstance.

He wants you to forgive the offender. Yes, it is quite difficult and seems unreasonable to man, but that’s what God want you to do. He want you to forgive and surrender your hurting soul to Him and allowed Him heal the wound created by the said offense. Beloved, the practice of forgiveness is the Christian’s most important contribution to the healing of the world. Always forgive as commanded. It is unreasonable and ungodly to dwell in incessant bitterness against others.

Are you truly a child of God? Notice that the word of God is clear on this matter – “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”. What that means is that you are never to return evil for evil to anyone, but to focus your thoughts on what is right in the sight of God and honourable to all men.

Although it is impossible to love the conduct of a person who curses and reviles us; who injures our person or property, or who violates all the laws of God; and though we may hate his conduct, and suffer when we are affected by it, yet we may still wish well to the person. We may pity his madness and folly; we may speak kindly of him and to him; we may return good for evil and may aid him in time of trials (Rom. 12:17-20). Beloved, we are believers and we have orders not to be vindictive but to let go of Offenses. Let’s live as children of God that we are and let the world see Christ in us.

Having read today’s devotional, what are you expected to do?
1. Don’t feed on Offenses, let go of them as quickly as possible.
2. Don’t disobey God by refusing to forgive others.
3. Encourage others to learn to forgive as did our Master Jesus Christ.
4. Prayerfully commit the offense to God and allowed Him to help you overcome it.

Daily Task : Make forgiveness your perfect choice and not an option.

Daily Reflection : Those who have mastered the act of love and forgiveness have mastered the act of christianity

Prayer: LORD God! I know it is hard to forgive and to love others unconditionally, however, give me the grace to do it in Jesus’ name, amen.

Prophetic Word : Today, I prophesy over your life, may you receive divine ability to forgive and love your enemies as commanded in Jesus ‘ name.
