Verse Of The Day : If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridle not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. – James 1 : 26 (UKJV)
LISTEN : A careless and reckless use of the tongue makes our claims of piety questionable. Genuine service to God demands that we bridle our tongues. The unbridled tongue is a mark of falsehood in the part of the christian. Many profess Christ today but deny Him and what he represents by the damage they often cause with their tongues. The Christian’s tongue should be wholesome and life-giving instrument in the hands of God.
Unfortunately, many who claims to be children of God allows their mouth to control them instead of them controlling their mouth. They lie maliciously, some by a desire to revenge for some real or fancied injury make the wrong use of their tongues. Some through their tongues benefit themselves at the expense of others. With their tongues, they set two persons at variance, and therefore misrepresent the actions and motives of one to the other. Still with their tongue they lie indiscreetly. That is, they garnish, modify, or magnify stories, so that it conveys a wrong impression.
Friend, God wants His people to be discreet, not thoughtless and tattling gossips. People who are hasty with their tongues. The bible stated it clear that the religion of the man who does not bridle his tongue is vain. What does that mean? It means that such religious person is only deceiving his or her heart. He only seems to be religious. By his inability to control his tongue, he proves that one great ruling sin at least still remains unsubdued – the tongue (James 3:5-8 ; 1 Peter 3:10).
Beloved, is your life characterized by inability to bridle the tongue? Don’t forget that there are serious consequences for it. A loosed tongue will cause you sadness, jealousy, envy, hate and sometimes death.
With such lifestyle, no one will trust you, give you his confidence, or listen to you without misgivings. Above all, you will get serious trouble when your indiscretion or falsehood is found out. Therefore, don’t allowed your tongue to bring you sorrow and shame, where men will hate and avoid you as much as possible because of your failure to bridle your tongue. Beware!
