Verse of the Day: Sanctify them by your truth; your word is truth – John 17:17.

LISTEN: Man’s sinful nature can’t allow him to access or fully dedicated himself to God Almighty. Only the washing of the sinful nature by the Word can guarantee the cleansing that man require to connect to and be set apart for God. Christ the Word of God is the ultimate truth. Moments preceding his final days on earth, he prayed to his Father to sanctify his disciples with the Truth, the Word of God. He used the word sanctify; which means, to render pure, or to cleanse from sins, (1Th 5:23; 1Co 6:11). Sanctification in the life of a Christian is progressive. It consists in his becoming more like God and less attached to the world; in his getting the control over evil thoughts, passions, and impure desires; and in his becoming more and more weaned from earthly objects, and attached to those things which are unseen and eternal. This further means that he or she should be consecrated, and set apart to a holy office or purpose. When Jesus prayed here that God would sanctify them, he desire that his disciples might be made personally more holy, and might be truly consecrated to God as the ministers of his religion. As children of God and ministers of the gospel, we can only be devoted to the service of God just in proportion as we’re personally pure. Our faith in Christ cannot operate or be valid without sanctification (Heb 12:14).

The word of God in a man’s life will do the following and many more:

1). The word of God separates us from sin and other things that defile. 2). The word of God provokes Christian dedication and consecration (Acts 2:41, 42, 46). 3). The word of God is the sole source of divine sanctification (John 17:17) 4). The word of God brings freedom (John 8:32). 5). Continuing in the word makes you a true disciple of Christ (John 8:31). 6). God’s word carries life with it (John 5:24; Heb. 4:12). 7). The word of God is our weapon against sin and evil (Ps. 119:11) 8). The word of God is the seed of sanctification (Col. 3:16) 9). The word of God is our weapon in trials and temptation (Matt. 4:4).
