GIVE TO THE LORD’S WORK

Friday September 2, 2016.

Author : Bishop Julius Okarike

Verse Of The Day: Give, and it will be given to you: A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use will be the measure you receive.- Luke 6 : 38 (NET).

LISTEN: Giving is a word that most people don’t want to hear about. They enjoy receiving than giving. Mention the word “giving” in the church and many will frown at it, murmur, or possibly decline their membership. Mention it in the family and husband and wife will quarrel and act unfriendly towards each other for days. Wherever the word “giving” is mentioned, people tend to hesitate, complain and questions the authenticities of the request to give. Sadly, people fails to know that everything in life begins or involves giving (Seed). A story is told of a man of God who went to his home town to collect for the cause of missions (God’s kingdom projects). One of his old friends said, “friend, well, I will give $10,000 just because of you.” ‘No’ said the man of God, I can take nothing for this cause, if you’re giving because of me. “Friend, you’re right”, said that friend of his. Here is $20,000 seeing it is for the Lord Jesus Christ. His perception changed the moment he realised that giving is an act of honour to God; and that it enhances kingdom achievements.

Beloved, haven’t you noticed that life functions on the principle of seed and harvest? And that if you don’t give one, you can’t receive another? Certainly, you don’t know how to live until you have mastered the act and purpose of giving. If you’re sincere, you’ll believe with me that you must give carbon dioxide to receive oxygen to stay alive; and give love to receive love, peace and unity, and give money in investment to receive money as return on investment, give efforts and diligent hardwork to receive success, etc. Often people hesitate to give because they neither understand the scriptures nor the blessedness of giving. The bible said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” ( Acts 20 : 35 ). To be able to give and give acceptably to a good cause or the Lord’s work, we should first of all give our hearts to him. When you give God your heart, giving him your hand, that’s, your money won’t be difficult anymore. (2 Cor. 8:4-5).

Henceforth, don’t hesitate to support a good cause especially the LORD’S projects. Do it in your family, the church of God worldwide and the society at large. Remember, the measure you use in relating with others will be the measure you receive in return.

Having read today’s devotional, what are you expected to do?
1. Serve God with all you’ve got – talent, time and treasures (money).
2. Don’t hesitate to respond to a call to support God’s kingdom projects.
3. Don’t live for wealth, live for God.
4. Always make sacrifices to God’s kingdom projects and for a good cause in the society.
5. Cultivate the habit of giving and you’ll not hesitate to give when the need arises.

Daily Task : You are blessed to bless, therefore, do not grumble or hesitate to give, but give freely and cheerfully to the glory of God.

Daily Reflection : Certainly, you don’t know how to live until you have mastered the act and purpose of giving.

Prayer : Father of all goodness, you’re the giver of all good gifts; help me to give sincerely and delightfully to your cause in Jesus’ name. Amen

Prophetic Word : Today, I prophesy over your life, may God prepare your heart to serve his purpose on earth in Jesus’name.

  1. A tightened hand is not free to receive but a loosen hand is free to receive. God’s word is an eye-opener and is new every morning. God I pray for provision and a liberal heart.
