HIDE HIS WORD IN YOUR HEART

Author : Bishop Julius Okarike

Verse Of The Day : Your word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O LORD: teach me your statutes.- Psalms 119 : 11-12 (UKJV).

LISTEN : Do you know that the word of God is powerful and alive? That God honours his word as much as he honours himself? Do you also know that God’s word is a seed? And when it’s planted in a man’s heart and carefully nurtured grows into a fruit of righteousness unto eternal life? Do you know that for a seed to grow well or flourish, it must be in a friendly environment, on the right soil, have adequate rainfall, conducive climate, etc. Comparatively, these physical conditions are like that of the spiritual; that’s, the word can only grow well in a ‘healthy soil’ – the human heart. The word of God as a seed is planted daily in the hearts of men, but the conditions of the hearts have hindered the success of the the seed (God’s word). We’re living in a busy and wicked world where a lot of things and people are asking for our attention. They want our involvement, commitment and acceptance to their offer. Our involvement, commitment and acceptance in turn result in distraction, backsliding from the faith, sin and disobedience to God and total deviation from God’s original purpose for our lives.

Truly, the distractions, involvements, backsliding, disobedience to God, and deviating from his purpose for our lives is because we don’t pay attention to the state of His word in our hearts. When you gladly commit sin and willfully disobey God, what does it demonstrate? When you don’t listen to your conscience anymore, what does it express? When sin and wickedness is taken for a hobby what does it exhibit? When righteousness, holiness, love, forgiveness and other virtues are tagged ‘old fashion’, what does that really demonstrate? All that ( those mentioned above) simply demonstrate bankruptcy of God’s word in your heart. When the heart is empty of the ‘word’, life will be empty of divine purpose. When the heart is bankrupt of the ‘word’, sin, wickedness and all manners of crimes and criminality are welcomed with opened hands.

So, what do we do to avoid being empty of God’s word and to shun sinning against Him? The bible has the answer. Psalms 119 : 11 said, ” Your word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against you.” Beloved, when you hid God’s word in your heart and jealously guard it from being corrupted by wrong association or taken away from you, you’ll continue to grow in faith and obedience to God and your steps will not slide. (Psalms 37 : 31). Henceforth, may you gladly invite the Holy Spirit to teach you the ways of the Lord in Jesus ‘ name, amen.
