Verse Of The Day : Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.- Romans 6 : 6
LISTEN : Do you know that the death of Jesus Christ has crucified your corrupt and polluted nature to the cross? Do you also know that he died so that the body of sin might be destroyed forever, and your soul delivered? Are you aware that by reason of his death you’re no longer permitted to serve Satan through sin, but God through righteousness in Christ Jesus? Do you know that by virtue of your faith in Christ you’re to live a new life in him to the glory of God? Beloved, by reason of Christ’s sacrificial death, the old man,( the corrupt nature) has given way to the new man, (the renewed and regenerated nature from God). That’s, the corrupt and polluted nature died with Christ on the cross; and those living in sin today are living basically by personal choice.
Obviously, the reason Christ died was to redeem us by destroying the body of sin empowered by the “old man.” By the old man is meant, that corrupt and polluted nature which we derive from Adam, the first man: the old and new man are opposites; as then the new man is the image of God repaired in us; so the old man is a depravation of that image of God, and a universal pollution of the whole man. The “old man” is crucified with him; by virtue of our union with him, and by means of his death and crucifixion:(Gal 2:20). The body of sin is the very same that is called the old man. The corrupt nature is sometimes called the body (Rom 8:13), sometimes a body of death (Rom 7:24) , and here the body of sin. It is indeed a body of sin; it is not one sin, but all sins inclusive. It is with respect to this body of sin, that particular lusts and corruptions are called members, (Col 3:5). God’s desire for his children is to walk in newness of life, because Christ died that the body of sin might be destroyed; that’s, that the body of sin might be weakened more and more, till at last it be destroyed.
Beloved, henceforth we should not serve sin; as we did before regeneration, and as they still do who voluntarily commit it, (Joh 8:34). They do not only commit sin, but are under its control and power, and have surrendered themselves as servants to sin. Thankfully, we (True believers) have a choice not to serve sin anymore because we’re putting on the new man. God bless you!
