Verse Of The Day : O LORD, you are our father; we are the clay, and you our potter; and we all are the work of your hand. – Isaiah 64 : 8
LISTEN : What the clay is to a potter, is what we’re to God. The clay is a heavy, sticky material from the earth that is made into different shapes and that becomes hard when it is baked or dried. In the other hand, a potter is a person who makes pots, bowls, plates, etc., out of clay : a person who makes pottery by hand. We all are the potter’s clay. God the ‘Potter’, moulds our lives to any shape and form he desires. Everyone at his or her best is nothing but dust. We brag, and often do or say things that are too high for us irrespective of the fact that we’re nothing without God. Do you know that we’re here today and gone tomorrow forever? Do you know that our pride in our achievements, beauty, finances, academic qualifications, etc are temporal and ends when life expires? Do you know that whatever you hold dear today at the expense of God, you’ll lose them at the end of life at the expense of your life? So why do we resist God? How long do you think you’ll be here on earth? Do you at all consider eternity? If you do, why haven’t you realised that God is our Father and Maker? In the book of Isaiah 54 : 5, the bible said, ” For your Maker is your husband; the Lord of armies is his name: and the Holy One of Israel is he who takes up your cause; he will be named the God of all the earth.”
Here, God is called our maker, and also referred to as our husband. This goes to complement our text of the day which rightly address God as our Father, and the acknowledgement that we’re clay – the potter’s raw material. Therefore we should realise that we all are the work of his hands. Because God is our Father, we owe him obedience, respect, honour, loyalty, etc. As our “husband”, we owe him humility, faithfulness, love, respect, trust, obedience, etc, just the same way a good wife would owe her husband. Besides, as our maker, we owe our existence and everything to him. Beloved, we’re clay in the hands of God. We’re but raw materials in his hands, and he moulds everyone into the kind of object that will serve his purpose. Henceforth, let’s acknowledge God as our Father, surrender to him as our maker, and admit that we all are the works of his hands; for our times are in his hands.
Having read today’s devotional, what are you expected to do?
1. Don’t forget that you’re God’s handwork, therefore demonstrate that with your lifestyle.
2. Submit and surrender to God’s instructions and never resist him.
3. Always remember that you may choose to ignore him today, but you can’t choose not to answer to him at the end of your life. You’ll certainly appear before him for judgment.
4. Allowed God to mould you into an object of his will, don’t design yourself against his purpose.
Daily Task : Always acknowledge God as your Father, surrender to him as your maker, and admit that you’re the work of his hand.
Daily Reflection : We’re clay in the hands of God. We’re but raw materials in his hands, and he moulds everyone into objects of his purpose.
