Verse Of The Day : And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let you go, except you bless me.”- Genesis 32 : 26

LISTEN : We often pray and don’t receive because we give up too soon. In most cases no doubt, people pray and don’t receive because they pray for the wrong reason (James 4 : 3). But other times, it’s because people give up too soon. Do you still remember what Jesus Christ told the people in respect to persistence in prayer? If you can’t, then read and listen to what he told them. In Luke 18 : 1 – 8 he said, ” Then Jesus told them a parable to show them they should always pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people. There was also a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but later on he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor have regard for people, yet because this widow keeps on bothering me, I will give her justice, or in the end she will wear me out by her unending pleas.’” And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says! Won’t God give justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay long to help them? I tell you, he will give them justice speedily…” Here, Jesus Christ warned his people against losing heart in prayer. He explained that it’s important for God’s people to be persistent in prayer. That your prayer is not yet answered doesn’t mean that God has abandoned you. Pray more harder. Like the widow in this parable, don’t give up. God will certainly answer you. Prayers that comes from the heart will always catch God’s attention.

Jacob the son of Isaac was a man who understood the power of persistent prayer. When he had an encounter with the divine being on his way back to his father land, the figure (the divine being) pleaded with him to let him go, but Jacob replied, ” I will not let you go, except you bless me.” (Genesis 32 : 26). Beloved, what can you deduce from Jacob’s firm statement? In his reply to the divine being, Jacob by implication was saying, My life is useless without God’s blessing, I can’t face my enraged brother Esau, without a touch from heaven; I know my solution lies with God, I’ll rather die than remained bankrupt of God’s blessing, I won’t give up till my answer come. Jacob was determined, and therefore wrestled with him until he prevailed and got the blessing (Genesis 32 : 28). Like Jacob, we should pray persistently till we breakthrough.

Having read today’s devotional, what are you expected to do?
1. Be persistent in prayer even when all you can hear or feel is silence, for it won’t be long.
