Verse Of The Day : Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and all of you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. – 1 John 3 : 15 (UKJV).

LISTEN : You might be wondering what this title is all about, right? A murderer? One may say, “I’m not one, because I don’t kill with the sword, gun, or other weapons of destruction”. Perhaps you’ve already exonerated yourself from this title – ‘a murderer’, without finding out God’s detailed definition of a murderer, right? Who is a murderer? The dictionary defines murderer as one who murders; especially, one who commits the crime of murder; one who commits the crime of deliberately killing a person: one who unlawfully kill a person especially with malice after being premeditated. But does God’s word give further definition of a murderer? Obviously yes! What then does the bible said about the person of a murderer? The bible states categorically that, “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer” (1 John 3 : 15). Jesus Christ founded the Christian faith on love, and wants his people to love one another. Before his ascension to heaven, he enjoined his disciples to love one another. He said, “ I give you a new commandment – to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” (John 13 : 34). Jesus Christ gave this command because he knew that one can only coexist with others if there’s love. Absence Of love for others in the society is the reason for all manners of evil that goes on today.

Many people today, especially our young people seemed to be possessed with the spirit of Cain, who hated his brother Abel and murdered him. Sadly today, this same spirit is in the midst of the believers in Christ. Brothers and sisters are hating one another with passion, thereby hindering the work of God. But the bible affirms that, ” Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer.” That is, he has the spirit of a murderer; he has that which, if it were acted out, would lead him to commit murder, as it did Cain. The private malice, the secret grudge, the envy which is cherished in the heart, is murderous in its tendency, and if not for the outward restraints of human laws, and the fear of punishment, it would often lead to the act of murder. By God’s standard, he who hates his brother, though he does not in fact commit murder, is guilty to the same degree as if he had actually done it. Why? Because the spirit which could lead to murder is resident in him, and God judges people as he sees them to be in their hearts. Oh! How many real murderers there are on the earth besides those who are detected and punished, and besides those open violators of the laws of God and man who go at large! Oh! How wonderful is the grace of God, in the case of the true Christian, the grace not only restrains and checks us, but effectually subdues all evil feelings in our hearts, and implants in their place the principles of love! Beloved, When you choose to physically, spiritually, emotionally, etc murder your fellow Christian, or fellow man, remember the word of God, ” Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and all of you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” Let’s love one another and the world will be a better place for everyone.

Having read today’s devotional, what are you expected to do?
1. Cleanse your mind daily of grudges, and all ill feelings that could contaminate your spirit
2. Learn to let go of Offenses before they degenerate to something else.
3. Always remember that children of God are not permitted to express hate amongst themselves.
4. Pray daily for grace to follow through this counsel.

Daily Task : Let’s not be like Cain who hated his brother Abel and murdered him. For we’re created to be our brothers’ keepers not their killers.

Daily Reflection : Oh! How wonderful is the grace of God, in the case of the true Christian, the grace not only restrains and checks us, but effectually subdues all evil feelings in our hearts, and implants in their place the principles of love!

Prayer : Oh LORD, today, I surrender my feelings to you, don’t allow me to hold others guilty in my heart in Jesus ‘ name, amen.

Prophetic Word : Today, I prophesy over your life, every spirit of hate, malice, envy, wrath, anger, etc occupying your thought is hereby cast out in Jesus ‘ name, amen.
