Verse Of The Day : For you, LORD, will bless the righteous; with favour will you compass him as with a shield.- Psalms 5 : 12
LISTEN :Who are the righteous? These are those whose faith in, and love for God causes them to order their lives according to God’s laws (Psalm 1:2; 1 John 3:7); God bestows righteousness on them because he counts faith as righteousness (Genesis 15:6; Philippians 3:9). God rewards faith and obedience. His blessing is his reward for obedience. In Genesis 12 :1 – 4, the bible says, ” Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, unto a land that I will show you: And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.” The decision to leave Haran, no doubt was a difficult one for Abram (Abraham). He had both assurance of the blessing and conditions of the blessing. He was to leave his own people, his kindred and his father’s house to a different place that was yet unknown to him at the time.
On the other hand, God is to show him his real inheritance (Land of Canaan), transform him into a mighty nation, bless and make him famous, bless the entire world through him; and protect him from human and satanic curses. Because Abraham was a man of faith, he did exactly as the LORD commanded.(v.4). He didn’t resist God, instead he took the risk of his life and moved away from his people. Was he really happy when he separated from his people? I don’t think so. I want you to imagine yourself in the situation Abraham found himself, will it be easy for you to say goodbye to your loved ones and friends? A place you’ve been all through your life and have your contacts and connections? Will it not be more difficult and frustrating if you’re to travel to an unknown destination like Abraham? A journey that you weren’t prepared for? That was exactly the situation Abraham found himself. Nevertheless, he determined to follow the will of God no matter what. He obeyed every piece of information and directives from the LORD despite his childlessness at the time. Even when it appears that the promise of being a father was delayed and seemed unrealistic, he believed in the unfailing power of God.(Romans 4 : 18 – 22). Beloved, what was the result of his faith and obedience to God? Genesis 24 : 1 says, “Now Abraham was old, well advanced in years, and the LORD had blessed him in everything.” Glory! God blessed him as he promised; he blessed him with silver and gold, cattle, servants, etc; above all, he gave him the promised child, Isaac and grew him into a nation. Beloved, in the same way, he will bless you if you’re willing to obey his directives; for the LORD, will bless the righteous; with favour will he compass them as with a shield.
