Author : Bishop Julius Okarike

Verse Of The Day : And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as you will.
Matthew 26:39.(UKJV)

LISTEN: Oh! How desperate people are to have things done there own way, especially when they’re in some form of pressures. This desperate disposition has been there in the past and it’s equally apparent in different areas of our lives in today’s society. Many people does things even when they’re quite convinced that God doesn’t approve of them. They tend to dictate to the Spirit of God and give reasons why God should approve of the actions, choices, or decisions they’re to make. Most times they take God’s permissive will as his perfect will; as a result, what was started well ended as a tragedy. Whatever we do, we should strive to respect God’s perfect will; yes, it may hurt us, but God’s will is the best for us. Hours before his passion – his suffering, Jesus Christ poured out his heart to his Father in prayer. Although, he was distressed and in sorrow of heart over what he was to go through, he offered his prayer to his Father whom he knows have the answers to all questions of life. He was not mandating God to make the situation work his (Jesus’) own way, but the way of his Father.

Beloved, In your moments of pain, afflictions, troubles, grief, or the likes, can you pour out your heart to God in prayer and wait patiently for His answer? In your time of rejection, when everybody, even your trusted friends have abandoned you, can you still hold on to God? Can you still care to know what God is saying concerning the situation as Jesus Christ did? Although Jesus Christ wanted the horrible death that awaited him removed, yet he left the decision to the Father to make. He chose to respect the will of his Father than have it his own way. Even at the cross when he (Jesus Christ), seemed not to connect with the Father anymore, he cried out, “saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mark 15 : 34). The Son of God at some point felt forsaken by the Father; but was he really forsaken? Of course not! After his death on the cross and subsequent burial, God replied his opponents in three days by causing a glorious resurrection. Jesus Christ followed the Father’s will to the very end; even when it seemed like his Father had abandoned him he still entrusted his life in the hands of the Father before breathing his last. The bible says, “ And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into your hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the spirit.”(Luke 23 : 46). Beloved, in moments of trouble, distress and difficult decisions, do you learn to wait on God? In Psalm 27:14, David said, “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD”. Beloved, Just learn to wait on the Lord. Always seek his will, play your part, and leave the rest to Him.
