Verse Of The Day: Therefore, said he unto them, the harvest is truly great, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest – Luke 10:2
LISTEN: I believe you might be wondering what exactly is this urgent thing he’s talking about and why? God’s divine mission to save mankind is the urgent task. The assignment of the kingdom is urgent because life is involved. Christ has given us eternal responsibility which we mustn’t fail. In the eyes of God time is running out; and He wants His people to approach the kingdom assignment with utmost urgency. Because we’re humans and short sighted, and we believe that there’s enough time to play with, hence everyone (christians) has abandoned the kingdom responsibility – soul winning and witnessing to Christ for the salvation of the world. Beloved, this is the assignment that actually brought Jesus Christ to the world, and He equally commissioned His disciples to the same duty before His ascension (His journey back to heaven). The world is burdened with sin and we must urgently go to save those that could be saved. We’re on a duty with a deadline, and must be treated as urgent. Time is ticking away speedily on a daily basis, and if we neglect to work and save sinners we may not do it again. Heaven is counting on christians all over the world to deliver on this heavenly mandate. Beloved, have you ever assigned a job with a deadline to someone? A job you were asked to do, or services you were asked by another to provide? And you contracted it to someone who had delay to deliver on the due date? How did you feel having failed to deliver on a deadline? Obviously, you’ll feel disappointed, ashamed, worried and stressed up; as a result, you’ll put pressure on that very person to deliver. In the same way, Jesus Christ is bothered that people are going to hell everyday while the church sit back and watch.
The church seems to have lost the zeal that once stirred the early church. Christianity today seems to be predominantly practised with ‘executive-mindedness.’ by christians. Most people feel too big for the kingdom assignments. Evangelism and soul winning is seen as jobs for clergymen or a selected few of the church. What a surprising and disappointing situation this trend will be to Jesus Christ who commissioned the twelve disciples to go into the world and make disciples, who will in turn do the same till the end of the world! Before Jesus Christ ascended to Jerusalem in preparation for the Passover, He told His disciples a story depicting the need to be productive to His kingdom till His second return: “occupy till I come”, He said (Luke 19:12-27). Beloved, there are lives to be saved out there, many people that have sold themselves to the devil; God wants them restored to himself. Jesus was talking about the great harvest in today’s’ verse, and the harvest represents the lost souls of men in sin, for though there was such number of disciples called to the ministerial work, and sent out, there is still need for more. Souls are lost every day because of sin, therefore, all Christians must join to save them. Beloved, what are you waiting for? Why not join God’s rescue team today! It may be that you might save someone. Do that today starting with your family, neighborhood, etc. Beloved, let’s pray to God, the LORD of the harvest to send more christians with us to evangelise the world today. God bless you.
Having read today’s devotional, what are you expected to do?
1. As a christian, don’t leave the duties of evangelism and soul winning to pastors or perceived ‘spiritual members’ of the church, for it’s your responsibility as well.
2. Don’t be a nominal christian, rather determine to be a committed and dedicated christian to the glory of God.
3. Always support kingdom projects and programmes; and remember that God can’t forget your investments in His kingdom.
4. Examine your current inputs in God’s kingdom projects and determine to commit fully to God’s kingdom agenda.
Daily Task :Are you a christian? Don’t forget that you’re called and commissioned to be a soul winner for the kingdom; don’t hesitate to witness to Christ anywhere, rather go out today and win souls into the kingdom.
Daily Reflection : Fellow believers in Christ, we have a divine mandate to propagate the gospel of Christ to the dying world. Don’t forget that heaven is counting on us, (christians) all over the world to deliver on this heavenly mandate.
Prayer: Almighty God, I ask for grace to serve you faithfully by winning souls to the kingdom. Help me not to be too busy to the point where I can’t care anymore to save a soul each day for you in Jesus’ name, amen.
Prophetic Word: Today, I prophesy over your life, you’ll not be blinded by the affairs of this world and forget your actual purpose of existence; God will guide you to fulfill His purpose in Jesus name.
