Verse Of The Day : Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins has not seen him, neither known him. – 1 John 3 : 6
LISTEN : Do you know that when a christian decides to live like an unbeliever he or she has lost the potency of his or her faith in Christ? Do you also know that when a christian has willfully conformed to the world systems, fads, trends, ungodly cultures, etc, he or she has equally lost his or her claims to the christian faith? No genuine christian stays comfortable with sin. Obviously, our faith in Christ is demonstrated by our commitment, love and loyalty to Him. Without personal relationship with Christ we have no genuine ground to profess the christian faith. When you maintain a relationship with Christ your life is ordered in line with His will and you can’t deliberately ‘swim in the ocean of iniquity – commit sin willfully.’ The bible says, ” Whosoever abides in him [Jesus Christ] sins not” (1 John 3 : 6a). How do we abide in Jesus Christ? We abide by faith, love, and obedience. The word abide means, to remain or continue;to endure without yielding: to remain stable or fixed in a state. So if you must resist sin and influence of the world on your life, you must remain and continue in Christ no matter what. You must determine to resist every temptation, but remain fixed and stable in your resolve for Him. Beloved, he that abides in Jesus Christ doesn’t commit sin because his heart is purified by faith, and he is a worker together with God, and consequently does not receive the grace of God in vain. (1 John 3:1; 1 John 3:3).
The bible continued and said,“whosoever sins has not seen him [Christ Jesus], neither known him” (1 John 3 : 6b). He who sins against God haven’t seen him, neither does he know him. This means that such person’s eye of faith is darkened, so that he cannot see him as he formerly did; and he has no longer the experimental knowledge of God as his Father and portion. Sin causes you to lose spiritual insights, your kingdom sonship and portion in God. For if you abide in him [Christ], as the branch in the vine, deriving all light, life, grace, holiness, wisdom, strength, joy, peace, and comfort from Christ; or dwells in him by faith, enjoys communion with him as a fruit of union to him; and stands fast in him, being rooted and grounded in him, and abides by him, his truths and ordinances, and places your security in him, and perseveres through him: you won’t sin; not that you have no sin in you, or lives without sin, but that you can’t live in sin, nor give up yourself to a vicious course of life; for this would be inconsistent with your dwelling in Christ, and enjoying communion with him. Beloved, sinfulness is not the lifestyle of the new nature in us, let’s shun wilful sin and the unfruitful works of darkness and embrace the righteousness of God today (Ephesians 5 : 11).
Having read today’s devotional, what are you expected to do?
1. Don’t live your life unchecked; always examine yourself for a possible presence of known sin in your life.
2. Don’t copy the dying world around you, rather copy the resurrected Christ within you.
3. Determine to incessantly resist every known sin in your life and surrender your life fully to the purpose of God.
4. Don’t pretend your faith in Christ, be real and show the world what christianity is all about.
Daily Task : Always remember that sinfulness is not the lifestyle of the new nature created by God, let’s shun wilful sin and the unfruitful works of darkness and embrace the righteousness of God today.
Daily Reflection : Sin causes you to lose your kingdom sonship and portion in God. For if you abide in him [Christ], as the branch in the vine, you’ll derive all light, life, grace, holiness, wisdom, strength, joy, security, peace, and comfort from Him.
Prayer : Blessed Father, I acknowledge my sins and helplessness today, help me to overcome the grip of sin and sorrow on my life in Jesus ‘ name, amen.
Prophetic Word : Today, I prophesy over your life, every hold of sin and sorrow in your life is destroyed henceforth in Jesus’ name.
