Verse Of The Day : Even, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.- Psalms 23 : 4
LISTEN : As long as life exists there must be reasons for fear. Most often people are gripped with the fear of increased crime rate, uncertainties, the future, diseases and sicknesses, poverty, tragedies, robbery, threat to life, rape, kidnap, assassination, failure, terrorism, insecurity, victimisation, intimidation, molestation, betrayal; and worst of all, the fear of death. The list goes on and on. Fear is a major instrument in the hands of the devil. He uses fear to sap people of their strength. He [satan] often destroy even the most courageous by the same instrument of fear and keep him or her in doubt of the help of God in times of trouble. Fear sap our energies for ‘battles’ and live us powerless in the face of temptation, trials and tribulations. When the devil succeed in causing you to sustain your fear, he would have succeeded in making you to doubt God whom you believe. Beloved, don’t forget that anyone living in this wicked world must at some point in his or her life face fear. But such person will win or lose, succeed or fail by the way he or she handle the situation. Thankfully, we’re not alone. Those who trust in the LORD are not alone, no matter the degree of their circumstances. They fight their fears through faith in God. They believe that God is greater than what appears to be greater than them. Apostle John clearly stated in 1John 4 : 4 thus: “You are from God…and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
Beloved, why are you afraid? Why do you chose to be intimidated by your circumstance? Why have you chosen to give up too soon? Where has your faith, confidence and courage gone? Has God ceased to answer prayers? No matter what you’re going through, I want you to realise that countless others had gone through similar circumstances and overcame. I know you’ll overcome. Just repeat this word to yourself, “I’m not afraid.” David was in similar situation as yours; he was declared wanted by King Saul of Israel death or alive. He ran away and wandered in frustration for many years away from home. He experienced different degrees of afflictions both from his own home and without, but he assured himself of victory by the power of God. In our verse of the day he said, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.” (Psalms 23 : 4). Though David was in a precarious situation, he chose to think and act differently. He admitted the fact that he was in real trouble, but believed that with God’s grace and help, the situation will be divinely manipulated in his favour. He vowed not to be afraid of evil because God was his support. Beloved, do you know why David was courageous in spite of the threat to his life? It’s simple. In Psalms 56 : 3 David said to God, “In the time of my fear, I will have faith in you.” Beloved, can you think and act like David from today? Anytime you’re afraid put your trust in God. Do it and it shall be well with you.
