Verse Of The Day : For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.- Philippians 1 : 21 (KJV).
LISTEN : Death is painful and a colossal loss to humanity. Life is good and everyone wants to live it to the fullest. The young want to see more good days and the old seem not to be tired with life as well. In spite of the pains that people go through in life, they still want to live. All things being equal, nobody would want to die, even those who committed suicide. Unfortunately, no one has the power to live forever, we all have an appointed time to stay on this earth; and after that, we are gone from this world and gone forever. Obviously, death is a tragedy and a huge loss to mankind; but the tragedy that death causes is not that life is lost, but that people fails to acknowledge the purpose of life before death struck. Wisdom will tell you that this present life is designed to help us prepare for eternity. This present life is meaningless if you miss out in eternity. The more prepared you are for eternity the less attached you are to this present world; and the less prepared you are for eternity the more attached you are to the world (Philippians 1 : 20). Sadly, someday you will certainly leave this world behind and transit to eternity.
However, what the wicked dread – death, the righteous faces it courageously, having been assured of eternal life with God. Apostle Paul in talking about death and life said, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”(Philippians 1 : 21). He saw the believers lives as instruments through which God perfect His will on earth. With our lives we advance God’s kingdom on earth. When we live, it gives us the opportunity to serve God and save mankind to Him. On the other hand, he saw death as gain. Death as gain? Yes, gain! Death is gain to believers: it is not easy to say what the believers gains by dying; they are released thereby, and delivered from all the troubles and distresses of this life, arising from diseases of body, losses and disappointments in worldly things; from the oppressions and persecutions of wicked men; from indwelling sin, unbelief, doubts, and fears, and the temptations of Satan; we, as soon as death occur enters into the presence of God, where is fulness of joy, and is immediately with Christ, which is far better than being here, beholding his glory and enjoying communion with him; we are at once in the company of angels and glorified saints; then we are possessed of perfect holiness and knowledge; inherits a kingdom prepared from the foundation of the world, and wears a crown of life, righteousness, and glory; enters upon an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled; and received into everlasting habitations, into mansions of light, life, love, joy, peace, and comfort; in death, we are at perfect rest, and surrounded with endless pleasures (Isaiah 57 : 1 – 2). What a gain! The believers does not feel sorry for existing this world, rather, they are happy when God call them home. Beloved, if you are prepared for eternity, death will not scare you but prepare you here to meet God someday. Let us like Paul say, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Beloved, as for me, I have no regret.
