Verse Of The Day : The one who associates with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.- Proverbs 13 : 20.

LISTEN : Right association is necessary for success in life. Your journey of life can be a success or a failure; a fortune or a tragedy by the kind of friends you keep. You cannot expect success in life when you surround yourself with failures and people who are not ready for success. Do you know that you can be discouraged or spur to success-provoking actions by the kind of friends you keep? If you choose to associate with the wise, you will grow wise; but when you choose to walk with fools, just be prepared for trouble. But who is a wise person? I will tell you few things about a wise person, but not limited to what I will share with you in today’s devotional. Firstly, a wise person is one who receives counsel. One who listen to advice. Not everyone receives counsel, many resent and despise it, but a wise man will receive and appreciate it. He will always turn to the LORD for direction in life. He will not disregard godly advice and warnings. Secondly, a wise person guards his or her tongue. The tongue has been a major problem and source of harm to humanity; it has equally been a source of blessing to many. A wrong use of it can destroy ones life, hence the wise is careful how he or she uses his or her tongue. Therefore, those who knows how to use it wisely will enjoy its benefits.

Thirdly, A wise person flees from evil. Departing from evil is a mark of wisdom. The bible says that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 1 : 7). If you see a person who cherishes evil, it is a sign that such a person has been dominated by foolishness. The wise makes every effort to eschew evil, he or she is never comfortable with evil, or staying around ungodly and wicked people. Fourthly, a wise person is always prepared in terms of life challenges and opportunities. He knows that life is all about preparation. The wise does not wait till opportunity comes before preparing for it, rather he or she prepares ahead of time. The wise does not wait for trials to come before preparing spiritually, but rather, prepares by growing his or her faith before the battle. the wise is not frustrated by circumstances, because his or her faith is deeply rooted in God’s word; as a result, he or she is resilient to circumstances. Fifthly, the wise person obeys God. Obedience to God is a mark of wisdom. People are prone to do what they want against God’s will, but not so with the wise. The wise does not find it difficult to obey God. He or she does not struggle with obedience to God, instead, he delights in His commandments. He or she enjoys to live as it pleases God. Sadly, the fool is a direct opposite of the wise. He or she does not receive counsel, does not guard his or her tongue, but uses it recklessly. The fool does not eschew evil, but gladly ‘swim in the ocean of iniquity’. Besides, the fool does not obey God, but lives continually outside the will of God for his or her life. Beloved, let us be wise by associating with the wise.
