Verse Of The Day : Take heed to yourselves: If your brother trespass against you, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day return to you, saying, I repent; you shall forgive him.-Luke 17 : 3 – 4

LISTEN : The NEW ENGLISH TRANSLATION Bible puts our verse of the day thus: “Watch yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him. Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” ( Luke 17 :3 , 4). Here in this bible verse, Jesus Christ began to address the issue of forgiveness by using this thought-provoking statement, “Watch yourselves!” What does that mean? It means that, there will be temptation to refuse to forgive when you are hurt by others; friends, colleagues or family members may discourage you against forgiving your offender(s); the degree of the offense done to you might be high, as a result, you may conclude that the offense is not forgivable. Besides, you will certainly have a good reason why you should not forgive your offenders. Therefore, Jesus Christ said, ” Watch yourselves!” That is, watch yourself so that the temptation to refuse to forgive will not overcome you. Watch yourself so that friends, colleagues, or relatives do not influence and manipulate you into unforgiving disposition . Watch yourself so that the thought and hurt of Offenses does not keep you from giving forgiveness to your offenders. Watch yourself so that your heart is not hardened by bitterness and you fail to forgive your offenders. Watch yourself so that you do not fall into the temptation of keeping records of Offenses and you fail to forgive. Beloved, it does not matter what you do, or who you are, Offenses must come.

At one point or the other, somebody must hurt you and you will hurt somebody; and we all must need to forgive one another no matter what (Leviticus 19 : 17). Anytime you are offended by another, rebuke the offender and let go of the offense. Jesus Christ said, ” If your brother sins, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him. Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” ( Luke 17 :3 , 4). He said that you should forgive your offender no matter the number of times the offense occurred in one day. When such person ask for forgiveness do not hesitate to forgive. It may hurt to forgive, but it is for your own good; for if you refuse to forgive others you have denied yourself God’s mercy. (Matt 6 : 14 , 15). Beloved, strive to shun unforgiveness, for it is satanic and has its support from the devil. No godly person will refuse to forgive those who offended him or her. Anyone can hurt or offend you. However, it is your choice to forgive or not to forgive. Unfortunately, a lot of people, including christians are given to Unforgiveness; they find it difficult to let go of Offenses. They are committed to vengeance and will not rest until they have taken their own pound of flesh on others. This ought not to be so. May God help us to forgive our offenders in Jesus’ name, amen.
