Verse Of The Day : Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and when he stumbles do not let your heart rejoice,- Proverbs 24 : 17.
LISTEN : The bible says, ” Do not rejoice over your enemy’s calamity.” I know that many will not be comfortable with this message because they have suffered so much in the hands of their enemies. Obviously, they went through some torturous moments of their lives. My dear, it is so sad that you went through such painful experience in the hands of your enemies, I sincerely sympathise with you. However, we should rather obey the command of the LORD than our own emotions. You should learn to not rejoice over the downfall of your enemies no matter what. No doubt, it is the nature of humans to rejoice over the downfall of their actual or perceived enemies. They often rejoice over their enemies misfortunes with comments like, ‘he is paying for his evil’; ‘his woe has just started’, ‘this is just the beginning of his sorrows’; and many such comments that makes others appear evil and make us look righteous and innocent before all. The bible is clear on the subject of our disposition towards our enemies. It says, ” Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and when he stumbles do not let your heart rejoice. (Proverbs 24 : 17).
God want us to love our enemies and leave vengeance totally in His hands. He knows how to reward the wicked for his or her evil deeds. Love is the nature of God and he want us to demonstrate it towards others, and those we have known as our enemies. You must not rejoice over your enemies because one of the characteristics of love is to never celebrate evil. In 1 Corinthians 13 : 4 – 6, the bible says, ” Love is never tired of waiting; love is kind; love has no envy; love has no high opinion of itself, love has no pride; Love’s ways are ever fair, it takes no thought for itself; it is not quickly made angry, it takes no account of evil; It takes no pleasure in wrongdoing, but has joy in what is true. (BBE).” Beloved, God wants you to be kindhearted, loving and forgiving. He knows the harm and damage you have incurred by the actions of your enemy or enemies as the case may be, yet He does not want you to be like them – in being heartless, wicked, mischievous, inhumane, mean, callous, merciless, and other ungodly disposition that characterises the wicked. Beloved, you should learn to think, feel and act differently from those who do not know God. (Matthew 5 : 46 – 48). Love the unlovable and enemies who will not want to see you succeed. God knows how to handle them for you. Besides, if you rejoice over your enemy, you will bring curse upon yourself (Proverbs 17 : 5b); and you will move God to abandon your battle against the enemy or enemies as the case may be (Job 31 : 28 – 30).
