Verse Of The Day : The one who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and will not be answered.- Proverbs 21 : 13
LISTEN : Am I expected to help those in need? Does God really want me to support people in need? Should I show great concern for the poor, or neglect them? Why should I bother myself with the need of the poor who are not in any way related to me? What if I decides to neglect them? Will I be offending God for making such decision? After all, is it not my money and resources? These and many more questions often run through people’s minds when issue of giving is raised. Thankfully, the bible is clear on this matter, and it says, “The one who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and will not be answered. (Proverbs 21 : 13). Beloved, God cares for the poor and needy, therefore want us to care for them too (Job 29 : 12). To neglect the poor is to neglect God. To refuse to help them out in their needs is to choose to disobey God. But why should anyone who claims to be a child of God neglect the poor against God’s directives? Are we not supposed to be the light of the world? Are we not supposed to be the hands through which God meets the needs of the poor? Are we not supposed to love and care for the poor as God would care for them?
Beloved, God wants us to listen to the plight of the poor. He wants us to feel their pains and attend to their needs. Therefore, we should not shut our ears to their cries, we should not pretend as though we do not know what they are going through or share in their sufferings; instead we should serve God’s purpose by serving the poor. Do not forget that at one point or the other everyone must have need of something – health, encouragement, money, protection, etc; and God expect you to help out others, especially the poor when it is in your power to help. Do not forget that a day will come when you will cry for help and none will be there to help because you shut your ears at the cries of others (Proverbs 28 : 27). Do not think that you do not have need of others, a day will come when you will certainly remember that you have the need. Beloved, let us not neglect to support the poor that are within and without; always remember that God will certainly reward your labour of love. (Hebrews 6 : 10).
