Verse Of The Day : Keep a watch on your behaviour; let all your ways be rightly ordered.- Proverbs 4 : 26
LISTEN : Watch what you do, for one thing will lead to another. When you do not watch your thoughts they will metamorphose to actions, and when same actions are repeated unchecked, it will become a behaviour. Your behaviour projects you to the world and demonstrate to others who you really are. You can attract friends or repel them by your behaviour, you can gain favour or be out of favour by your behaviour, you can equally fail or succeed by your behaviour; and you can win or lose by your behaviour, etc. Beloved, have you tried watching your behaviour? Have you tried watching your actions? Do you know that your actions can make or mar you? Do you also know that you can be directly and negatively affected by your own action?
A story is told of an elderly carpenter who told his contractor of his plans to retire. The contractor asked him to build one more house as a personal favour. The carpenter agreed to do it. Yet, this time, the carpenter did not put his heart into his work; he used cheap materials and bad workmanship. After the house was finished, the contractor came by and told the carpenter, “Here is the key to the front door. This house is my gift to you for your years of service. ” What a shock! He felt ashamed of himself and disappointed. He regretted his actions but it was too late. If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built with cheap materials and bad workmanship. What a shame and heartbreak! So it is with us. We will always live the life we have built. (Galatians 6:7).
Our verse of the day said, “Keep a watch on your behaviour; let all your ways be rightly ordered.” (Proverbs 4 : 26). This means that it is your responsibility to watch your actions and guard against doing the wrong thing. Think of yourself as the carpenter. Each action you take is a nail hammered, and a board placed, or a wall erected. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past; your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and choices you make today. Watch your behaviour and guide your actions and you will save yourself from avoidable tragedies of life. Let us consider our ways like Prophet Haggi challenged and ordered the Israelites by the words of the Lord. (Haggi 1:5,7). Always be careful of your actions and you will not regret it.
