Verse Of The Day : …But godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.- 1 Timothy 4 : 8. (NET).

LISTEN : Nothing compares with godliness. It is the lifestyle of the godly. It is the delight of the God fearing. What then is godliness? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “Godliness is believing in God and in the importance of living a moral life.” However, the word godliness is beyond that. Godliness certainly includes Christian character, but it is more than that. There is another, even more fundamental aspect of godliness than godly character. That is the main foundation on which godly character is built. The foundation of godliness is devotion. Godliness is devotion in action. The life of Enoch the father of Methuselah is an ample example of devotion, for his life was characterised by godliness, for the bible recorded that he “walked with God”. (Genesis 5:21-24). Enoch walked with God; he enjoyed a relationship with Him; and he pleased God. So we could rightly say he was devoted to God. This is the meaning of godliness. On a general note, godliness is a personal attitude toward God that results in actions that are pleasing to Him. This personal attitude toward God is what we call devotion to God. Devotion is not an activity like many people perceives; rather it is an attitude toward God.

Devotion is known by its three essential elements – the fear of God,the love of God; and the desire for God. Beloved, the practice of godliness is an exercise or discipline that focuses upon God. From this God-centered attitude arises the character and conduct that we usually think of as godliness. What a joy to identify with godliness! What a joy to walk with God like Enoch did! There is no possession, achievement, status, etc., that compares with being God loving and God fearing. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs 9 : 10). Wisdom itself is the key to all divine blessings. Where wisdom is present, walls of limitations are broken. Where wisdom is present, purpose cannot be frustrated or mission stagnated. Godliness is priceless because its benefits goes beyond this present life. The bible says, ” But godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8). Beloved, invest in godliness and you will be glad you did.

1. You are expected to fear God, love Him; and have unending desire for Him.
2. To strive to live a godly life no matter the pressure to do otherwise.
3. To not fix your mind on this life, rather fix it on eternity with God.
4. To know that your investment in godly living is never a wasted effort.
