Verse Of The Day : And when the king of Israel was going by on the wall, a woman came crying out to him, and said, Help! my lord king. And he said, If the Lord does not give you help, where am I to get help for you? from the grain-floor or the grape-crusher?- 2 Kings 6 : 26 – 27.
LISTEN : How often we seek help and succour from the wrong sources. Truly, everyone is in need of help in one way or another, but not everyone can give you the help you seek. Most often our plea for help is greeted with heartbroken disappointments and shock. However, we must not lose heart because there is one person who cannot disappoint no matter what. He is always there for the broken-hearted, the bereaved, the afflicted, the oppressed, the fatherless, the widow, the sick and weak, the marginalised, the poor, etc. He does not disappoint, His name is Jehovah, the almighty and self-existent God. In our bible verse of the day, the circumstances leading to the situation which the woman found herself before meeting the king was famine. People were starving because of scarcity of food when she encountered the king of Israel and asked for help. In reply the king said, ” If the Lord does not give you help, where am I to get help for you? from the grain-floor or the grape-crusher?” (2 Kings 6 : 27). The king was right. If God does not help you, vain is the help of man. (Psalms 60 : 11 ; 121 : 1 – 2).
The King’s reply was shocking. The woman’s hope was dashed. The king whom she believed would help her compounded her frustration and misery. Similarly, we will experience same if we rely solely on man for help. A lot of people failed to understand that human help is limited, as a result, cannot assist you beyond human abilities. There are people whom you think are capable of helping you, but truly, they do not have such abilities. In this verse of scripture, the king of Israel shifted away this woman’s focus from himself to God when he said, ” If the Lord does not give you help, where am I to get help for you? (v.27). I commend the king for acknowledging that real help comes from God. If God cannot help you no one can. But if He decides to help you even your enemy cannot resist to assist you succeed because God is involved. Beloved, in your times of distresses and trials who do you cry to for help? Do you cry to your father or mother? Who? Beloved, do not anchor your hope in man, put your hope in God and you will not be disappointed.
