Verse Of The Day : Rooted and built up in him and firm in your faith just as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.- Colosians 2 : 7

LISTEN : No believer in Christ can grow and bear fruit in Him if he or she does not abide in Him. No branch bears fruit on its own if it is not attached to the tree. Besides, no tree grows and bear fruit on its own either, if it is not rooted and attached to the soil. In the same way, every believer in Christ draws his or her strength from Him. That is why Jesus Christ said to His disciples and to us by extension, “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me – and I in him – bears much fruit, because apart from me you can accomplish nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out like a branch, and dries up; and such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and are burned up.” (John 15 : 5 – 6).

Beloved, it is impossible to be a faithful and fruitful Christian if you are detached from Christ, our source. You should be rooted in Him. However, to be rooted in Christ we must determine to walk as Christ walked. The verse that preceded our verse of the day said, ” Therefore, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him.”(Colosians 2 : 6). Our success in the faith can only be guaranteed if we continue to live our lives in Christ. This was the reason why Apostle Paul enjoined the Colosians to be rooted, built up in Christ and firm in their faith. This simply means that, they should abide and persevere in the faith, by continuing in Christ as branches do in the root ( Joh 15 : 4 , and to rest upon him as a building upon the foundation. Because temptations and afflictions abound, we should build our faith to overcome. We should be firm and settled in the faith, (1Pe 5:10). We should be growing stronger in our internal habits by living to the glory of His name.

No one have any reason not to be strong and live godly because we have been taught by the great Master and Teacher Jesus Christ. Nothing should deceive us to lend our ears to other doctrines other than the life-saving teachings of Christ. Most importantly, we should endeavour to be thankful for our faith in Christ. Until you feel satisfied and happy with your faith in Christ you cannot stand strong to overcome temptations and trials. We should abound with thanksgiving; satisfied and happy with ourselves, according to the superabounding grace we have in Him (Rom 5:20). Beloved, let us be thankful to God for His Son Jesus Christ, the reason for our salvation and eternal life. Let us grow and be rooted and built up in Him.
