Verse Of The Day: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.- Matthew 5:16

LISTEN: The simple truth about our topic today is that every believer in Christ has light to shine through the power of God. You and other readers of this devotional can equally shine the same light when you surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Light figuratively stands for good, insight, direction, etc. So good is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel of truth that delivers from error and lies of the devil.

The gospel that illuminate the hearts of men. The gospel that breaks the power of darkness over people’s lives. That is the light Christ wants us to shine throughout the world. In our verse of the day, the bible says, ” Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). Jesus Christ in His teaching taught His disciples to shine their light before men; meaning, that the light of the Gospel, which he had communicated to them, the spiritual knowledge of the mysteries of grace, which he had favoured them with, should be openly declared, and made manifest before men.

Light (the gospel) was not given merely for our own private use, but for the public good of mankind. Therefore, we are placed as lights in the world, we are to hold forth, in the most open and conspicuous manner, the word of light and life. Christ’ design is that the light of the gospel and our good works should cause men to glorify our heavenly Father. Our zeal, fervency, plainness and openness, sincerity, faithfulness, integrity, courage, diligence, industry, timelessness in preaching the Gospel, strict regard to the truth, the honour of Christ, passion for souls; kindness, love towards men, our care and concern to recommend the doctrines of grace – the gospel of Christ, by our example in our lives and conversations. All these are what Christ expects of us and will in turn glorify our Father in heaven.

Beloved, when the ministration of the Gospel has been blessed, for the illumination of the minds of men, to a thorough conviction of their state; and for their regeneration, conversion, sanctification, and comfort; they certainly will give praise to God, and bless his name for qualifying and sending us (ministers of the gospel) to show unto them the way of salvation, comfort, everlasting joy and life. Beloved, let us shine the gospel light to people around us and beyond, and the LORD will be glorified for our sake in Jesus’ name. (See Philippians 2 : 15 ; 1 Peter 2 : 9 ; 1 Thess. 2 : 12).

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. Shine the gospel light by spreading the gospel of Christ wherever you go.
2. Do not limit the spreading of the gospel to your surrounding, rather use every means possible to spread the good news.
3. Determine to bring glory to God through your good deeds wherever you go.
4. Never allow the act of darkness of wicked people to outshine your light of goodness.

Daily Task: Do not forget to shine the light of the gospel in your home, workplace, community, school, among your peers, etc no matter what.

Daily Reflection: When our lights shine before men, God’s name will be their songs and the gospel of Christ will be their hope.
