Verse Of The Day: Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.- Colosians 1: 12

LISTEN: The story is told in the bible of a certain man, a cripple by the name of Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of King Saul. When Saul and Jonathan his son died in the battle with the Philistines, the tragedy deeply affected his household. From then his house became weaker and weaker and was reduced to nought.

However, Mephibosheth found favour in the sight of King David because of his late father Jonathan, David’s bosom friend who was kind to David. Although as a cripple, Mephibosheth should not have deserved to come close to the king’ palace, let alone eat from the same table with the king. Fortunately, he was favoured. The bible said, ” David asked, ‘Does anyone know if there is anyone still alive from Saul’s family?’ I want to be kind to them because Jonathan was my friend.Saul’s family had a servant called Ziba.

So they asked him to come to see David. The king said to him, ‘Are you Ziba?’ ‘I am your servant’, he replied. The king asked him, ‘Is there anyone still alive from Saul’s family? I want to be kind to them as God is kind.’ Ziba replied, ‘There is still a son of Jonathan. He has two bad feet, so he cannot walk well.’ ‘Where is he?’ the king asked. Ziba answered, ‘He lives in the house of Ammiel’s son Machir in Lo-debar.’ So David sent servants to bring him from the house of Ammiel’s son Machir in Lo-debar.

Then Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son, grandson of Saul, came to David. He lay on the floor. He was *honouring David. David said, ‘Mephibosheth!’ ‘I am your servant’, he replied. ‘Do not be afraid,’ David said to him, ‘because I want to be kind to you. I want to be kind to you because your father Jonathan was my friend. I will give you back all Saul’s land and I want you to eat here with me always.’…Then David sent men to fetch Saul’s servant Ziba. He said to him, ‘I have given everything that was Saul’s or his family’s to your master’s grandson…Then Ziba said to the king, ‘I am your servant.

I will do as my *lord the king has said.’ So Mephibosheth ate food at the king’s table. He was like the king’s sons.” (1 Samuel 9 : 1- 11 EE). Beloved, King David remembered the covenant of kindness between him and Jonathan, therefore extended same kindness to Mephibosheth, though a cripple. In the same way, God demonstrated His love towards us by qualifying us to share in His inheritance with fellow saints in Christ Jesus. Let us be grateful for God’s wonderful love through the blood of Jesus. Through Him, the light of the gospel has illuminated our hearts. Praise God! (John 3 : 16 ; Romans 5: 8).

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. Acknowledge the kindness of God in your life and return thanksgiving to Him.
2. Do not disregard God’s grace upon your life, rather appreciate it and serve others with it.
3. Learn to not make vow rashly. Once made, do not forget to keep it, for it is for your own good.
4. No matter your level of bitterness, always remember to show mercy to whom mercy is due.

Daily Task: Every morning as you wake up from sleep, appreciate God for His mercies and kindness; and as you retire for the day, appreciate Him for all He has done.

Daily Reflection: When God’s grace, goodness, mercies and kindness are taken for granted, appreciating Him will seem unnecessary and a waste of time and resources to us.

Daily prayer: Compassionate Father, I am sorry for not giving you the appreciation that is due you, I repent of it today, help me to appreciate and pay back your love for me in Jesus’ name, amen.

Daily prophetic Declaration: Today, I prophesy over your life, you will not neglect to appreciate God’s grace, and God will not cease to release His goodness into your life. This season, may God show you uncommon kindness, in Jesus’ name.
