Verse Of The Day: Do not say, “I will pay back evil!” Wait for the LORD, so that he may vindicate you.- Proverbs 20 : 22 (NET).
LISTEN: What is revenge? It is to avenge (as oneself), usually by retaliating in kind or degree: it means to inflict injury in return for wrong done to you. That is, to pay your offender with his or her own coin; to be bad to your offenders because they were bad to you too.
Beloved, all things being equal, everyone will seek to avenge the wrong or evil done to him or her. Let us be reasonable, is revenge the solution to offenses or evils? Does it make anything better? Does it really compensate for the wrong done to you? Of course not! Revenge will put you in the same place as your offender. When you murder in revenge of murder, it makes you another murderer. When you blackmail in revenge of blackmail against you, it makes you another blackmailer.
When you steal in revenge of your items stolen by another, it makes you another thief or robber. If you lie in revenge of the lies against you, it makes you another lier. Whatever you do in revenge of the one done to you, you have made yourself another offender or evildoer. Friend, do you know that our desires to avenge all wrongs has left us where we find ourselves today? Why is it that nobody wants to let go of Offenses? Virtually everyone wants to take his or her own pound of flesh.
But do you know that if you are to follow every evil that men have done to you or your relatives, the world can never be safe for anyone? This is because, at one point or the other one must hurt someone either directly or indirectly. If you can be sincere, you have equally hurt someone sometimes ago and you were forgiven, what stops you from forgiving others today? Why seek private revenge instead of seeking God’s vindication? In our verse of the day the bible says, ” Do not say, I will pay back evil!” That is, do not do an injury to one that has done one to you.
The bible warned that private revenge is not to be taken, but should be left to God, to whom vengeance belongs. Therefore, Learn to wait on the Lord, and he shall save you; commit yourself and cause to Him; leave it with him to avenge your wrongs; wait upon him in the way of your duty, and wait his own time to do you justice; he will at the proper season, and in his own way, save you from your enemy or enemies as the case may be. Never reward evil for evil, nor evil for good. The bible says, ” Whosoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.(Proverbs 17 : 13).
Beloved, do not think that God is not aware of everyone’s actions, He is watching us. He has promised to visit and punish all evils and reward all goodness. So do not avenge yourself, instead wait for God to vindicate you. The bible declares, ” Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will go free.” (Proverbs 11 : 21 ). God bless you.
