Verse Of The Day: Preserve me, O God: for in you do I put my trust. I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Psalms 16 : 1 , 8
LISTEN: It is so sad that a lot of people do not appreciate God’s care, love, protection, provision, favour, etc towards them. They took all that for granted. They failed to understand that certain things are not possible without God’s grace. They equally failed to understand that their lives could have been lost had God not intervened at some point. Unfortunately, they attributed all to their own efforts, smartness, abilities, ‘wisdom’, intelligence, know how, etc. But the bible says, ” It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (Lamentations 3 : 22).
Beloved, do you know that we are nothing without God? Do you know that without God life could be so miserable and torturous? Do you think that you overcame your enemies by your power, skill, weapons, expertise, wealth, etc? Beloved, we are protected and preserved by the mercies of God. Most people does not acknowledge that fact, that is why they think and live the way they do. But King David who had tasted the favour and mercies of God never failed to trust Him at all times no matter what.
In our verse of the day David said, “Preserve me, O God: for in you do I put my trust. I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” (Psalms 16 : 1 , 8). He prayed for God to Keep him; guard him and save him. He perceived imminent danger of some kind – perhaps, the danger of death. (Psalms 16:8-10). He believed that God was able to preserve him from the impending danger and not be put to shame. His hope was in God. He had no other reliance than God; he felt assured that there was safety there.
God preserved and protected David from his numerous enemies because he took God as the source of his strength, comfort, protection, provision, etc. He took the law of God as his rule and standard for living, therefore, would not hesitate to accept responsibility for his sin, and to ask for mercy and forgiveness when God found him guilty of sin. Beloved, like David, let us say, ” Preserve me, O God: for in you do I put my trust. I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.”
