Verse Of The Day: Then Joshua said to the children of Israel, Why are you so slow to go in and take up your heritage in the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you? Joshua 18 : 3
LISTEN: I hope you still remember that the reason why God delivered the Israelites from bondage in Egypt was for them to go and serve Him and to possess their possessions, even the land of Canaan? The Bible says in Exodus 3 : 8, ” And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows. And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.”
In Exodus 8 : 1 the bible further said, ” And the LORD spoke unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus says the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.” Beloved, God made a covenant with Abraham, assuring him that he will bless him and make him a blessing, and his children will multiply to become a nation. Besides, He said to Abraham that his descendants will possess the beautiful land of Canaan. So when He (God) visited the land of Egypt with plagues, He did it to set His people free and to bring them to their land of covenant. But were they really prepared to enter the land of Canaan as their possession? Were they not expected to move into action? Of course, they were expected to take some steps which they refused to make.
Because of their slackness to rise up and possess their God-given possessions, the bible said, ” Then Joshua said to the children of Israel, Why are you so slow to go in and take up your heritage in the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you?” (Joshua 18 : 3). Beloved, this is the mistake a lot of people make today, the mistake of slackness and procrastination. They believe that it is not yet time to do what they should do. They linger endlessly in fulfilling their God-given purpose. Beloved, do not forget that it is your responsibility to possess what God has already given to you. A man once said, “God cannot give to you in miracle, what He has given to you in principle.
Why did Joshua questioned their slackness to possess the land? It is because, it was not God’s responsibility to do for them what they can do for themselves. God had promised them His presence, protection and deliverance from enemies; however, if they choose not to move on to possess the land because of fear and intimidation, it is all their fault. Most of us are like the Israelites who expect God to do everything for them. Even the ones they can do as humans they keep waiting for Him to act. Beloved, are there things God is prompting you to do? Do not continue to say that it is not yet time. Begin today; remember, time waits for no one. Stop being slack, act now.
