Verse Of The Day: Teach me to do your will; for you are my God: your spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Psalms 143 : 10.
LISTEN: Until you are ready to learn the will and ways of God, you will always be in opposition to Him. Those who does not know the will of God are always opposed to His instructions. They resist His will to their own destruction. They choose to live outside the influence of the Spirit of God. They choose to do the desires of the flesh, instead of the Holy Spirit of God. They forgot to acknowledge the fact that to live outside God’s leading is to live without real purpose of existence.
Beloved, do you know that God is the reason for our existence? And without Him we are nothing? Do you also know that, if you live without fulfilling His purpose, you have lived in vain? You need God to discover yourself. Beloved, unless you surrender to Him, He cannot reveal certain things to you. Imagine yourself having a ‘friend’ who is mischievous and unreliable in nature; besides, he or she does not want to come close to you as you will want to get close to him or her: will you give yourself to such fellow? Will you confide in such person? Will you like to share your deep secrets with such person? Of course not!
In the same way, God cannot reveal Himself to you if you do not want to come close to Him. (James 4 : 8). He will not teach you His way if you are not willing to surrender yourself completely to Him. When Jesus Christ commanded His disciples to preach the gospel to nations of the world, He said, ” Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28 : 19 , 20).
He commanded them to teach those who surrender their lives to Him. This simply means that God cannot continue to teach you His ways if you are not ready to obey His voice. Beloved, are you willing to follow the ways of God? His way is the way of holiness, purity, righteousness, peace, love, mercy, kindness, goodness, etc. However, when His goodness, mercy, love, etc. are taken for granted, His wrath and judgment will certainly be attracted.
In our verse of the day the Psalmist said, ” Teach me to do your will; for you are my God: your spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.” (Psalms 143 : 10). He prayed to continue in faithful obedience and service to God, notwithstanding all temptations. He prayed not to be allowed to his own blind and vain mind, or corrupt affections, neither give him up to evil spirit, but conduct him in all His ways. He prayed to be led in the paths of righteousness and not of sin or mischief, that he may not stumble nor fall.
Beloved, the Psalmist’s prayer should be our prayer today – that the Lord should teach us His ways and lead us through the paths of righteousness. Therefore, let us together seek to know, and to do the will of God, in Jesus’ name, amen. (See Psalms 25 : 4 – 12).
