Verse Of The Day: Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.-1 Peter 2 : 17

LISTEN: Everyone love to be honoured and loved, as much as God want to be obeyed and revered. Our primary responsibility to God is to love Him with the whole of our hearts, obey his word and love others as we love ourselves. The bible says, “Jesus said to him, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22 : 36 – 40).

Beloved, our greatest duty as humans is to love God. This simply means that, we should gladly surrender our lives to him. His interests, opinion, decisions, will, etc., should supercede ours. When we love him, we cannot continue to resist him, his commandment becomes our standard for life; the desire to please him will consume us, as a result, the hunger to fear and honour him will become pleasurable to us; at that point, we will serve Him with no regrets but joy.

Beloved, your responsibility to God is to love him, and you demonstrate that by obeying his commandments. Jesus Christ said to His disciples, “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.”(John 14 : 15). There are consequences for refusing to love and obey God. God will not ignore our disobedience forever, He will certainly visit and reward all our actions. The bible says, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.(Ecclesiastics 12 : 13).

Having known that we shall all give account of our actions someday, we should live with the fear of God. The fear of God in our lives will translate to love and respect for others. We can never love God and hate our fellow men. When we love God it challenges us to bother ourselves with the wellbeing of others. It is no news today that the society do not have regard for the poor. The needy and the less privileged are relegated to the background. There opinions does not count in a meeting.

Family members hardly consider them as useful, friends see them as liabilities; they are neglected and often left to die in their misery. Should we children of God join the society to treat them in such inhumane manner? Should such be denied their rights, respect and honour? Of course not! Our verse of the day said, “Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.” (1 Peter 2 : 17). What does that mean? It means that we should love and honour everyone unconditional.

They may not worth your respect, but you should respect them just the same. You are not doing it for them but for the LORD. His command is clear, “Honour all men.” Besides, as christians we should specially love members of the church of God in the world (the brotherhood), and also give honour to those in authority in spite of who they are. Beloved, let us endeavour to fulfill our obligations to God and our fellow men. God bless you.
