Verse Of The Day: More than that, I now regard all things as liabilities compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things – indeed, I regard them as dung! – that I may gain Christ. Philippians 3 : 8

LISTEN: To give up in this context is to surrender. It is to agree to forgo especially in favor of another. In life you must give up something to grab another (Eccles 11 : 1). No one grabs more with a folded palm. You can only grab more when you have an opened palm. That simply tells you that until you give up something you cannot get another that is greater in value. In every stage of life you must give up something to gain another. A new born baby must give up the comfort of lying down to be able to sit. Same baby must equally give up the comfort of sitting to be able to learn how to crawl, stand, walk and grow to maturity. Similarly, we all must give up something to be able to go up. However, you should first know what your goals are, and what is needed to accomplish them. Without full knowledge of what you want, you will not know what to ‘lose’ to gain what you want. People’s refusal to forgo something in favour of another of great value is the reason why many are yet to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. They are too comfortable and glued to what they are used to, hence finding it difficult to reach out for the best.

Beloved, to go up you must be prepared to give up something. Something though important, but cannot compare to what you stand to gain in the end for giving it up. Our verse of the day says, ” More than that, I now regard all things as liabilities compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things – indeed, I regard them as dung! – that I may gain Christ. (Philippians 3 : 8). To Apostle Paul, anything that does not have eternal value is considered a liability and a waste. He regarded his relationship with Jesus Christ as something of greater value than all else; as a result, he accepted to suffer the loss of all things just to gain Jesus Christ. He gave up all that meant much to him just to gain Jesus the hope of glory. Beloved what do you have to give up to go up in life? What must you give up to maintain a relationship with Christ? Do you know that life itself requires sacrifice? So, determine to give up what you should give up to gain the best. Do not hesitate, rather do it today.
