Verse Of The Day: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him.
LISTEN: God is good, but until you have tried Him you cannot discover how good He is. You cannot trust what you have not tried. A popular business advertising maxim says, “A trial will convince you.” The same applies to knowing God. You cannot enjoy God when you do not know Him. Besides, you cannot know God until you have tried Him by His word. (1 Peter 2 : 2 – 3). Our verse of the day says, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him.”(Psalms 34 : 8). The Psalmist has tasted God and have seen how good the Lord is in protecting, preserving and providing for His people. (Psalms 119 :103). He went further to say that blessed is the man that trusts in him. This simply means that, when you have finally discovered who God really is, that experience will bring joy and happiness into your life. Beloved, when you taste God you cannot walk in darkness of sin and sorrow anymore: when you taste God, you will realise that life is useless and empty without God.
Beloved, how can we taste God? To taste God is not to feel Him with the tongue as food, but to trust His faithfulness and experience His goodness in return. Here we have a call to the enjoyment of divine goodness (Psa 34:8). Two things are necessary to the enjoyment of this goodness: firstly, is freedom from a sense of guilt; and secondly, a sense of true gratitude. Beloved, enjoying God’s goodness involves trust in Him. It is our trust in Him that ensures true blessedness. Without a relationship with God you cannot experience His goodness. You will be tempted to criticise, mock or even blaspheme the LORD because you know nothing about Him. But when you eventually taste Him you will exclaim like the Psalmist in our verse of the day, ” O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him.” Beloved, may we desire to taste the LORD henceforth, in Jesus’ name.
