Verse Of The Day: My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I groan in prayer, but help seems far away. Psalms 22 : 1

LISTEN: Are you depressed? Not to worry! Depression happens to everyone at one time or the other, but staying depressed is what is wrong and should not be allowed because it is destructive and frustrating. What does it mean to be depressed? It means to feel sad: to have a serious medical condition that causes you to feel very sad, hopeless, and unimportant. People are often sad for different reasons. Reasons for sadness includes, death of a loved one, disease or sickness, disappointment, bankruptcy, hardship, break up in relationships, poverty, natural disasters (earthquake, hurricane, fire, flood, etc.); loss of finance, joblessness, the list goes on and on. No doubt, when people are hit with any of these situations, they tend to respond with depression. They feel sad because things did not work their own way. However, all depend on how we choose to react to what happens to us.

Beloved, you are not the only one going through difficult and challenging situation in life. David and many others were there. They suffered and faced hard times like you. They were heartbroken at some point in life like you. Worst of all, they prayed like you and their prayers was greeted with silence as God seemed to be very far from them; as a result, they were depressed and frustrated. That was the state of David when he penned this Psalm. He said, ” My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I groan in prayer, but help seems far away.” (Psalms 22 : 1). Beloved, surely there are times when you will pray and conclude that God has abandoned you and does not care anymore because your prayer was not answered. But that is not true, God still cares. He will answer at the right time. The same David who was depressed because his prayer was not answered immediately was the same that declares that God is his shepherd, and therefore will not fear because he is sure of safety, favour and protection. (Psalms 23 : 1 – 6). Finally, he celebrated God’s goodness when He eventually answered him. He said, ” In my distress I cried out to the LORD. The LORD answered me and put me in a wide open place.”(Psalms 118 : 5). Beloved, do not be depressed, cheer up! The LORD will answer you.
