Verse Of The Day: Do not give the devil an opportunity.- Ephesians 4 : 27
LISTEN: Satan is constantly looking for an opportunity to mess with, and destroy mankind. He is looking for the slightest opportunity to crush those who are careless and insensitive to the warnings of God. Unfortunately, many have given him that opportunity cheaply. Today’s bible verse is a continuation of Apostle Paul’s encouragement and admonition to the Ephesians in verse 26. He warned them against the spirit of anger, and commanded that no one should carry over hurt to the next day, but must let go of the offense no matter what. He said this to avoid inviting the devil into their lives. The devil is always looking for an opportunity to destroy us because he is our enemy and will not seek our own good. (John 10 : 10). Sadly, we often prepare the stage for him to attack our lives. Beloved, God’s word is clear on how we should treat the devil and his agents. One of the things that the word of God directs us to do is to give him no opportunity. That is, we are warned never to give advantage to the devil to possess our hearts, and put us upon more and greater evils; instead he should be resisted. (James 4 : 7)
Beloved, do not be deceived. When the devil comes, he starts small and present himself as a friend while he is an archenemy. The devil will strive to influence our mind, and irritate our spirit; therefore we must watch and pray that he may not get any place in us, or prevail over us. Everyday we deal with different people with different characters, and most often they do things that will cause us to act contrary to the will of God; and the devil seizes such opportunity to ruin people’s life. Beloved, be watchful! Do not open your ears to the tale-bearer (a gossip), to the slanderer, who comes to you with accusations against others, or with speculations and evil speakings. These are human devils; they may be the means of making you angry, even without any solid pretence; therefore give them no place, that you may not be angry at any time; but if you for any reason is offended against any, let not the sun go down upon your wrath; go to the one, against whom you have found your spirit irritated; tell him what you have heard, and what you fear; let your ears be open to receive his own account; carefully listen to his own explanation; and, if possible, let the matter be finally settled, that Satan may not gain advantage over you.
