Verse Of The Day: Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. Hebrews 13:3

Author: Bishop Julius Okarike

LISTEN: All things being equal, nobody will wish to go through pain in life. Nobody would have wanted to go through even a minute pain, because pain hurts and makes people uncomfortable. Pain causes bitterness, creates tension, steals joy, frustrates, and often results in death. No one is immune to pain. Throughout our life time (from birth to death), we will encounter pain. Most times, these pains come naturally, other times, they are caused. Many are responsible for their own pains (self-inflicted pain), while others suffer the pain inflicted on them by others. Beloved, having experienced pain and understand how it hurts, should we cause pain to others? Are we supposed to be the source of people’s miseries? Of course not! Instead, we should bear the burdens of the helpless (Galatians 6 : 2). Those who have felt pain ought not to cause it to others. We should not rejoice to see others weep and groan. We should not be the reason why the world of others is falling apart.

As children of God, we should follow His instructions on how to live with others. Our bible verse of the day says, ” Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.” (Hebrews 13:3). The International Standard Version of the bible says, ” Continue to remember those in prison as if you were in prison with them, as well as those who are mistreated, since they also are only mortal.” (Hebrews 13 : 3). These were Apostle Paul’s admonition to the Hebrew brethren and to us by extension. We are to identify with the afflicted, oppressed and mistreated. We should ease their pain by doing what we can to help. Unlike oppressors and wicked people, we should create an atmosphere of love, care, kindness, hospitality and support for the afflicted, traumatised and wounded. Beloved, may we feel the pains of others, because feeling their pain is the way we can effectively represent God on the earth and receive His blessing. (Matthew 25 : 34 – 40).
