Verse Of The Day: And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my Commandments. Exodus 20:6
LISTEN: Love is the nature of God. (1 John 4 : 8). He loves everyone irrespective of who they are and their background. His love for us is the reason for the death of Christ, His begotten Son on the cross. Beloved, God loves us unconventionally. However, His love cannot remain with us if we choose to live in enmity with Him. When God gave His commandment to the children of Israel after their Exodus from Egypt, He emphasized on the consequences of obeying and disobeying His laws. Besides, He assured them of His unfailing love towards those who love Him, and His wrath on those who disobey and hate Him. Exodus 20 : 2 – 6 says, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You are to have no other gods besides me. “You are not to make for yourselves an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above, or on earth below, or in the water under the earth. You are not to bow down to them in worship or serve them, because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the iniquity of the parents to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing gracious love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.”
Beloved, God’s love does not continue where His own name is despised and rejected. His love does not remain with those who find pleasure in sin and iniquity. Truly, where sin is tolerated and celebrated God’s love will be forfeited. It is an act of foolishness to gladly continue to ‘swim in the ocean of sin’ and expect God’s love to remain. Beloved, God can only honour those who honour Him, and will esteem lightly those who despised Him. (1 Samuel 2 : 30). Do you want to continue in the love of God? Love Him in return for His love for you. When you sincerely love God, the blessing will spread to your generation just the same way His wrath will affect the generation of those who hate Him. So how do we love Him? We love Him by obeying His words and staying loyal to Him. We love Him by following where He leads, serving His purpose and rejecting Satan and his works of darkness. Beloved, may you desire to love God and be loved by Him in Jesus’ name.
