EAT AND LIVE

Verse Of The Day: I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that has come down from heaven, so that a person may eat from it and not die. John 6 : 48 – 50

LISTEN: Do you know that Jesus Christ is the bread of life? Do you also know that He is the source of eternal life? When preaching to His audience, Jesus Christ defined Himself as the bread of life. In other words, ‘ He is the food of life’. Everyone depends on food to stay alive, as a result, if a person abstain from food for a prolonged period of time the person will eventually diminish in size, get weak and possibly die if the process is altered. Because of the fear of death, we all do things within our powers to make sure we do not die out of hunger and starvation. We labour painstakingly to put food on our tables to be able to stay alive. Sadly, all these efforts we employ to achieve that will end just in this temporal world. No matter what you provide for your family, or what you have been provided with – the good meals, the comforts of life, etc., their relevance is just temporal, for they cannot go beyond this world. Unfortunately, that is what we spend our God-given energy to pursue. We pursue temporal satisfaction at the expense of the eternal.

However, Jesus Christ in one occasion said to His audience, “Labour not for the food which perishes, but for that food which endures unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him has God the Father sealed.” (John 6 : 27). Jesus urged his listeners to focus their attention more on eternity than the temporal world. Because this world will pass away and everything in it. Only those who live for God will overcome. (Mark 13 : 31 ; Matthew 24 : 13). Beloved, everything here is temporary and they cannot truly satisfy, only God can because He is eternal. He has ordained His Son Jesus Christ as the means to life and true satisfaction. Therefore, do not pursue temporal satisfaction at the expense of the eternal. No matter the pleasure in this world, it is just temporary therefore, will not last. Real life is only in Christ Jesus. He is the bread of life, whose strength and efficacy endures forever. (John 6 : 48 – 50). Jesus Christ gave his life for us, therefore, let us not reject Him, but rather accept Him and live. Remember, he is the bread of life, eat and live.
