WHERE IS THE FEAR OF GOD?

Author: Bishop Julius Okarike

Verse Of The Day: And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Job 28 : 28

LISTEN: God created man for His own glory, and therefore feels hurt when He is disregarded, disrespected and dishonoured by the same people He created. He loves us and want us to love Him in return. This season (Christmas), we are celebrating His love for mankind in the person of His Son Jesus Christ. Therefore, there is no better way to appreciate Him than to fear, obey, worship and honour Him. But we tend to fear men than we fear God. The fear of God is fast disappearing from the hearts of men today. Beloved, where is the fear of God in your heart? Where is the honour of God in you? In one occasion, God’s complaint against Israel was their lack of fear and honour for Him. They were ready to fear men, than they were to fear God. Beloved, do you know that human wisdom is measured by the fear of God? (Job 29 : 29 ; Pro 9 : 10 ; Psalms 14 : 1). Anyone who lacks the fear of God is empty of real life.

No reasonable person denies God His honour. If we call Him our God and Master, we should demonstrate that by our fear and honour for Him. The Bible says, “A son honors his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts unto you…” (Malachi 1: 6). Beloved, evaluate your fear for God daily. How much fear and love do you have for God? Are you putting His interest above yours, or the other way around? Joseph, though a slave boy in Potiphar’s house, demonstrated the fear of God when his master’s promiscuous wife asked to sleep with him. He vehemently refused and said instead, “…how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Gen 39 : 9). Beloved, like Joseph, let us learn to fear and honour God always.

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?

2. Let the fear of God direct your actions and decisions each day.
3. Sow the seed of the fear of God in your life, family and among your friends.
