Vese Of The Day: I rejoice at your word, as one that finds great spoil. Psalms 119 : 162
LISTEN: People hunger for physical food, but do not hunger for spiritual food. What physical food is to the body is what God’s word is to human spirit. God’s word is a life – giving force. Hence, to reject it is to reject life, to receive it is to receive life. (John 6 : 27). Beloved, how much do you hunger for God’s word? How much does it excites you? Do you know you cannot experience real life without the word of God? No doubt, you may live in affluence and enjoy good things of life yet, you may not have real life; because real life is a product of God’s word. Jesus Christ was tempted by the devil in the wilderness when He fasted and was hungry and the bible recorded, ” But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4 : 4). Beloved, God’s word is life. When God created the world He created it by His word. Besides, He governs the world by His word too. Whatever He does, He does by His word.
Therefore, when we hunger for His word we will draw strength from it. What does it mean to hunger for God’s word? Firstly, it means to be excited by God’s word and to long for righteousness. In our verse of the day the Psalmist said, ” I rejoice at your word, as one that finds great spoil.” (Psalms 119 : 162) This means that anyone who is bored by the word has no hunger for it. If you cannot find joy in God’s word you do not have hunger for it. Secondly, it means to value God’s word more than self- satisfaction and above all else. Job said, “I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). Beloved, when God’s Word is as important to you as your physical food, then you are going to start to grow in your Christian life. Many hearts today are spiritually dry and empty of life because there is no hunger for God’s word. Oh, that we would hunger for the Word of God! When there is passionate hunger for God’s word our dry and empty hearts will be filled with His presence. (see Matthew 5 : 6).
