Verse Of The Day : So Jesus told those Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples. John 8 : 31
LISTEN : Anyone can claim to follow Jesus Christ, but not all are truly serving His purpose. Anyone can sing His praise, but not everyone can stick with Him. Anyone can hear His words, but not everyone is a true disciple. A disciple is one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another: one who follows the way of another. True disciples of Jesus Christ are known for their consistency in following Him and obeying His words. When God’s word is rejected or taken lightly, our claim to a relationship with Him is negated. No one is a true disciple of Christ who does not continue in His word – the word of life. There is no ‘part – time followership’ in the Lord’s service. Total commitment is the standard for a relationship with God. It is either you are with Him, or the devil; or for Him, or the devil. What makes the difference between a committed and uncommitted follower of Jesus Christ is what he or she does with the words of God.
To the committed or true disciple of Christ, God’s word is the standard and principle upon which his conduct is based. But to an uncommitted or false disciple, God’s word is taken lightly, despised and taken for granted. Beloved, our relationship with Jesus Christ must be taken seriously. Three things must happen to be certified a true disciple of Christ. 1). Confession : you must both confess your sin and Jesus as Lord. (Romans 10 : 10 ; John 1 : 9). 2). Conversion : you must be transformed into a new man in Christ Jesus from your old ways and beliefs (Acts 3 : 19 ; Romans 12 : 2) ; and 3). Continuity : you must not stop following and obeying Him, or change because of tribulations or persecution. (Hebrews 3 : 14). Beloved, are you truly following and obeying God’s word? If not, begin today and your life will be changed for good.
