Verse Of The Day : Other seeds fell on rocky ground where they did not have much soil. They sprang up quickly because the soil was not deep. But when the sun came up, they were scorched, and because they did not have sufficient root, they withered. Matthew 13 : 5 – 6

LISTEN : Yesterday we were told in the parable of the sower that the seeds which fell along the path, and immediately devoured by birds are those who heard the word but lack spiritual understanding. As a result, the devil snatched it from them. Today in our verse of the day, we read that some of the seeds fell on rocky ground where there was no much soil; though, the seeds sprang up quickly, but because the soil was not deep enough and sufficient for the roots, they withered by the scorch of the Sun. In explaining the meaning of that to His disciples Jesus said, ” The seed sown on rocky ground is the person who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. But he has no root in himself and does not endure; when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.” (Matthew 13 : 20 – 21).

This category of hearers actually received the word with joy, but just for a short time because they were not rooted in the word of God. He who is not rooted in the word of God cannot survive the attacks of the enemy. The word of God is the shield against trouble and persecution. It is the sword of the spirit with which we can fight the enemy. There must be attacks to our faith in Christ, and only our faith in God can give us victory. (1 John 5 : 4). Unfortunately, many do not survive it because they are not grounded in the word. God’s word brings faith, and where the word is rejected and despised, faith can not thrive. Beloved, the value you attach to God’s words will determine the trouble you will conquer. If you lightly esteem God’s word, trouble and persecution can easily take you down when they come. Therefore, to overcome trouble and persecution you must do the following : 1). Desire to grow in the word of God daily. (1 Peter 2 : 2). 2). Determine to fear God consistently. (Genesis 39 : 9). 3). Be rugged and dogged in your faith in God. (Job 19 : 25).

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. Do not be ignorant of God’s Word, or allow the enemy steal your faith.
2. Determine to be fruitful in the word of God as long as you live.
3. Do not reject or despise God’s word, instead, accept and cherish it.
4. Desire to grow in faith and the knowledge of God on a daily basis.
