Author : Bishop Julius Okarike
Verse Of The Day : And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. Exodus 3 : 4
LISTEN : Immediately after his escape to Midian from the wrath of Pharaoh of Egypt, for killing an Egyptian; Moses became Jethro’s shepherd for many years. But one day as he was tending his flock in the bush at Mount Horeb, he encountered a burning bush that miraculously did not consume the bush. The sight caught his attention, and when he turned to see what it was all about, God spoke to him. Beloved, notice that God did not speak to him until he turned his attention to Him. God would not have spoken to him if he was too busy for God. Imagine yourself inviting someone for a meeting with you, on arrival the person refused to sit down and pay attention ; instead, walk up and down the place of the meeting: will you be pleased to go on with the meeting? Will you not take it as disrespect to your person? Of course you will! In the same way, God cannot do anything serious with you until you are prepared for Him.
With the burning bush factor, God was only seeking Moses’s attention. Only his undivided attention at that time could commit God to speak to him. Thank God for Moses! He was not too busy to approach God. Not too busy to keep his business (tending the flock) on hold to meet with God. This is where a lot of people missed it. They are too busy for God. Yet, they wonder if God ever speaks to them. Beloved, God cannot speak to you if you are not willing to pay attention. You cannot understand His voice when He speaks. He speaks through situations, dreams, visions, revelations, impressions in your heart, etc. (1 Samuel 3 : 4 – 10). But you will not understand until you are ready to pay attention. (Job 33 : 14 , 15). God will not force himself on you, but allow you to come close and be willing to listen to Him. When He calls, will you respond like Moses did, Here am I? Beloved, your attention is necessary to hearing from God. Until you are ready for him you will miss your message. Henceforth, make a list of what you think is distracting you from hearing God’s voice and gradually adjust or eliminate them. Be wise!
