Verse Of The Day : And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Ezekiel 22 : 30
LISTEN : God does not delight in destroying people (2 Peter 3 : 9 ; Psalms 86 : 15 ; 1 Timothy 2 : 3 , 4)) ; however, a people who abandoned Him makes themselves undefended and vulnerable. (Judges 6 : 1 – 6 ; Hosea 4 : 6). They put themselves in grave danger of destruction if nothing is done fast to avert His wrath. This is why God wants someone who will rise in defence of His people and save them from destruction. He wants someone who will “stand in the gap” for others. That is, someone who will expose himself and intercede for the protection of those who are about to be destroyed by sin. No doubt, our families and society by transgressions have broken down our “walls of protection;” and we have exceeded all bounds of law and justice; as a result, God is looking for just one person who would restrain His people from sinning, reform them, and set them a good example and saved them from imminent destruction. Beloved, we are all called to stand in the gap to defend what we know in our hearts to be biblically and morally correct and essential.
When God is angry with a people, He expects someone to sense the danger and move to stop it. Sadly, our land is consumed with evil because no one seems to care about what is happening. No one is prepared to intercede for the erring majority in the world. In the days of Prophet Ezekiel, God warned the Israelites of imminent danger, just the same way He is warning us today. Sadly, like them, we do not heed His warnings, nor do we often act as required. In our verse of the day, God trusts prophet Ezekiel to deliver a warning message to Judah and Jerusalem. Demanding that someone should sense the danger and “stand in the gap” for the land to avert His (God’s) wrath. In the same way, who is ready to “stand in the gap” to stop God’s wrath today? Could I be that “one man” God is looking for? Or you? My dear, time is running out. Let us look around and wake up to the reality that our families, churches, communities, nation, and the world are in great need of people to stand in the gap! Be wise!
