Verse Of The Day : You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God;’ and ‘What profit is it that we have followed his instructions? Now we call the proud blessed; indeed, those who work wickedness prosper. They even tempt God and escape. Malachi 3:14-15

LISTEN : There was a notable good man in a certain land, who had always helped and supported people in many ways. His people were fond of him because of his goodness to all. One day, he slept and could not wake up. He died! His family was heartbroken and devastated. The people of his land gathered to mourn and bury him. When he was about to be laid to rest, a man jumped out of the crowd crying and sobbing and walked straight to the officiating Pastor and asked, “Sir, why do bad things happen to good people?” “God knows! Brother, God knows!” Replied the Pastor. My dear, like this man in our story, are you wondering why bad things happen to good people? Why the just often suffers innocently? Why they are paid evil for their own good? Why they are hated for what they should be rewarded for? Do you think it does not pay to be good? Do you think it is worthless to serve God?

My dear, you err when you think like that. God knows more than us. Certain things in life are complicated (hard to understand, explain, or deal with); and answers to them seems mysterious. However, God has all the answers to our questions. Friend, when you cannot find answers to some questions of life, trust God with them. He will answer them at the right time (Jeremiah 33:3). Life is good when we learn to leave certain things in the hands of God, as we take time, thought and prayer to work things through. Surely, big issues take more time and thought and prayer to work through, but they also usually have a bigger and more lasting impact on the overall. So, no matter how complicated life seems, let us fear and serve God; and remember that it is not a waste of time to serve the only true God (Malachi 3:14-18). Be wise!

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?

2. Acknowledge God and serve Him heartily and remember that it is not a waste of time to serve Him.

Bible Verse : So remember your Creator in the days of your youth – before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them.” Ecclesiastics 12:1

LISTEN : I told a story few months ago, about a certain old man who had lived over ten decades and was tired of life, and practically begged for death to come take him away. Before he finally died, he no longer enjoyed being alive. He was tired of living because he no longer enjoyed his body the way he used to when he was young. His body systems failed, his muscles became a source of constant pain, his eyes became dim, walking became a difficult task because his bones could no longer bear his weight anymore. As a result, life no longer made sense to him. Beloved, all things being equal, someday you will get there too. But before then, know and serve the God who created you. Our Bible verse says, So remember your Creator in the days of your youth – before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them.”” (Ecclesiastics 12:1). This means that, now that you are still young and strong, you should keep thinking about God your creator. Serve, worship and honour Him with all your heart. You must do that before you are old and life becomes unpleasant, when you will say “I no longer enjoy being alive.” Beloved, I know that life is sweet ; yet, it is bitter without God. Life cannot be good when God is locked out of your life. The beauty of life is to acknowledge and honour God the giver of life. My dear, acknowledge and worship God today. Remember, when you fail to recognise and worship God as your creator, you are creating eternal problems for yourself. Be wise!

Prayer : Almighty God, I thank you because you are the only true God. Help me to worship you today with all my strength and all I have, in Jesus’ name, amen.
