Verse Of The Day : “All things are lawful for me” – but not everything is beneficial. “All things are lawful for me” – but I will not be controlled by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12 (NET)

LISTEN : We have a trend today, people follow what they think is lawful, but don’t care if it is helpful and edifies (builds, lifts or enlightens) or not. They just follow laws and not character and integrity. In today’s societies, a lot of things have changed negatively because, we are not wise enough to differentiate between what is lawful from what is helpful and edifying. However, if we can be a bit careful and discerning, we can’t fall into the pit of ignorance and destruction. Today, many countries have made laws that promote evil. They legalised prostitution, abortion, gay marriage, use of hard drugs and many more to the detriment of human life and the glory of God. My dear, what is lawful may not be helpful. Not everything that is lawful is of benefit to you. Beloved, be careful with what you follow. Determine to follow only what is helpful and what builds you up. You may ask, “How do I know what is helpful and edifying? How do I know what is profitable and able to build me up? It is simple. Anything can qualify as helpful and edifying if it increases your value positively and glorifies God (2 Peter 1:5-9); if it makes you feel better and blesses others to the glory of God; if it does not damage your health or reputation, if it does not undermine the word of God: and if it grows, matures and blesses you spiritually to the glory of God. My dear, don’t follow a trend just because everyone is following it, rather, follow a trend that is helpful, edifying and godly. Be wise!

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. Don’t just follow trends, follow helpful and edifying trends.
2. Quit harmful addiction and follow the will of God for your life.
3. Don’t waste your time on anything that can’t make you better off, or add value to your life.
4. Avoid anything that could damage your health or reputation.

Prayer : Almighty God, you are good to me. Therefore, help me to follow what is helpful, godly and life-giving as long as I live, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection : Don’t follow a trend just because everyone is following it, rather, follow a trend that is helpful, edifying and godly.

Quote : “Nothing qualifies as helpful or edifying if it destroys humans health or reputation; undermines God’s word, adds no positive value to life, and blesses no one or glorifies God.”

Faith Confession : Today, I acknowledge that, not everything that is lawful is helpful. Therefore, I will be careful with what I do or follow, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Biblical Fact : Did you know Anna was 84 years old when she prophesied about Jesus Christ? (Luke 2:36-38).

EVENING

TOPIC : I DESIRE TO BE CONSUMED BY HIS LOVE

Monday, March 25, 2019

Bible Verse : I will love you, O LORD, my strength. Psalms 18:1

LISTEN : My dear, what consumes your heart? Is it the desire to love God or to love the world? David’s ultimate desire was to love God. Like David, can you declare your love for God today? Can your family declare their love and loyalty to God? Can you boldly and genuinely say, “I will love you O LORD?” God is pleased when His creation acknowledged Him as their strength. He is happy when we love Him above all else. Beloved, your love for God is measured by what you are willing to sacrifice to gain Him: it is measured by how much you can obey and serve Him. Our love for God is complete when we no longer resist Him, but joyfully serve, obey, trust and follow His will without excuses. Like David, let us love the LORD and trust Him as our strength; because when the LORD is our strength, victory is guaranteed. Be wise!

Prayer : Dear Lord, help me to love you always as long as I live, amen.
