Verse Of The Day: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. 1 Peter 2:2
LISTEN: One of the ways life is expressed is by growth. In school we learned that one of the characteristics of a living thing is growth. Anything alive should grow, that is, have a progressive development; increase in size and shape. However, growth can be achieved or denied based on what is taken into the body to trigger the growth. Presence of disease in the body, lack of balance diet and certain vitamins and minerals in the body can hinder growth. When growth cease to happen, life begins to be miserable and boring. Imagine having a child that was born ten years ago, and till now the child cannot sit, crawl or walk, how will you feel seeing the child? Obviously, you will feel disappointed, heartbroken and pained because the child was not able to grow. In the same way, when you fail to grow spiritually God will see you as a failure.
Beloved, God want us to grow, and that must be through making use of his word. The word of God is the food meant for our spiritual life. What physical food is to the flesh (body), that is what God’s word is to the spirit. It is no news that our body feeds on physical food, grow and live; or hunger, starve and die. In the same way, our spirit will either feed on God’s word, grow and live forever; or reject it, suffer and be destroyed forever. Your spiritual life needs God’s word to function well. The bible says, ” But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4 : 4). Beloved, as much as you need your daily physical food, you need your spiritual food, the word of God. Without his word spiritual growth is practically impossible. That is why the bible says, “…Desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” (1 Peter 2:2). As a child of God or whoever you are, you need God’s word to grow and live. Read the bible and listen to his voice to discover his will, and you will grow and live.
