Verse Of The Day : The one who associates with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20.

LISTEN: The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. This means that, true wisdom begins with the fear of God. So, choose your associates or friends based on the fear of God. As a child of God, where God is not honoured friendship shouldn’t be permitted. Yes, you can love everyone, but be wise when choosing a friend. Friendship has a way of affecting people. Friendship can make you better or worst depending on the kind of friends you keep. You’re to be careful with your choice of friends. You’re not under any obligation to associate with anyone. Friendship is by choice. Hence, when you make the choice, make it wisely. Limit your friendship to the wise. When you walk with the wise you’ll secure a guarantee future for yourself. But when you cherish the company of fools, trust me, you’ll eventually ruin your life. My dear, right association is necessary for success in life. Your journey in this life can end as a success or failure depending on your choices. It’s good to walk with the wise because, the wise is opened to wise counsel. He listens to good piece of advice and appreciates it. He never leans on his own understanding, but turns to the LORD always for direction. He flees from evil and obeys God. The wise does not celebrate sin, but abhor it. He demonstrates his wisdom in godliness (Proverbs 1:7). So, follow the wise and you’ll become wiser; follow the fool and you’ll be doomed. Be wise!

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. Determine to avoid wrong association at all cost lest you ruin your life.
2. Be wise in choosing your friends and don’t be enticed into a bad relationship.
3. Don’t encourage wrong association around you, rather discourage and condemn it.
4. Never reject good piece of advice, instead, be willing to accept it and you will grow wiser.

EVENING

TOPIC : LET’S COMMIT OURSELVES TO THE KINGDOM TASKS

Sunday, September 8, 2019

Bible Verse : And another also said, Lord, I will follow you; but let me first go bid them Farwell, which are at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, no man having put his hand to the plough and looking back, is fit for the kingdom. Luke 9:61,62.

LISTEN : You can’t faithfully follow Jesus Christ until you’re determined to move in line with His will. You must leave the past behind and press towards the mark of the high calling. You must shun every distraction and focus rather on God’s purpose for your life. My dear, God can’t do anything serious with you if you’re unstable and disloyal to Him, and He can’t commit to you the treasures of the kingdom either if you’re undecided. Surely, anyone who fluctuates in his conviction in Christ is not fit for the kingdom. Our Bible verse today is about the encounter of Jesus with a man whom he urged to be his disciple, but asked for leave to go bid his relatives farewell first. However, Jesus Christ taught him and everyone a great lesson of commitment with an illustration from farm implement – the plough. This farm implement is usually used to pull through the ground in order to break it open into furrows for planting. Here, Jesus Christ illustrated with animal-drawn plough. The point he buttressed was that, to seek excuses from kingdom tasks can automatically and eventually render us unfit for the kingdom of God, just the same way an unfocused farmer can make wrong ridges while using the plough. My dear, be committed to God’s kingdom assignments henceforth. Be wise!

Prayer : Dear Lord, I thank you for you are God. Help me never to abandon my responsibility to the gospel of the kingdom, amen.
